It was a Wednesday, it was 5am and I had to get up to board the plane. We were first flying to Sydney, and then we were flying to Los Angeles. It was way too early in the morning to wake up, but despite being very tired, I was excited to have a new beginning. This was the start of something new.
When we arrived at Sydney domestic airport we took the shuttle bus over to the international terminal. Since we all needed a bit of energy we decided to get Krispy Kreme donuts. When you live in Perth you don't get many opportunities to have these delicious treats, so any time you can get them, you must get them. I got a chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles but the rest of the family decided to be boring and only got cinnamon donuts.
We had gotten our luggage checked in Perth and it had been transferred onto our next flight, that meant that there was one less thing to worry about. Travelling is really stressful, I didn't realise this because the last time I went on a plane was when I was just a little baby. I decided to take advantage of the slow but free wifi and started browsing through Tumblr. It comforted me seeing pictures and gifs of my favourite youtubers, although I didn't personally know them I know that they will always be there for me. It made me so happy to see a picture of Connor smiling, he had such a genuine smile.
We boarded the plane and got ready for takeoff. There was a small delay of 45 minutes, but in the grand scheme of things, this short delay wouldn't impact much. I had a window seat and I was sitting next to Tyde, Tyde had wanted the window seat but since I'm older I got it. I looked out the window as we drove down the runway, I knew that this was it, there was no turning back now. It was a bit windy so the takeoff was a bit bumpy and I started to get nervous. I looked out the window to see open water below us, it was so far down. So far. I What would happen if the engines failed? What if the pilot got sick? What if there was a terrorist? I realised my breathing was heavy.
"Troye, it's alright, it's going to be okay" by brother calmly spoke. He reached over and held my hand tightly. I was still hyperventilating. I was aware of the other passengers eyes on mine.
"In. Out. In Out." I tried to get my breathing in time with my brothers voice. Even though Tyde was the little brother he was taking care of me so well.
After about 10 minutes I had managed to completely calm down. "Thanks Tyde, I love you", I said to my little brother who I was ever so grateful to.
I fell asleep for a few hours, ate some food, watched a movie, and went back to sleep.
I was awoken by Tyde gently shaking my shoulders to tell me that we had arrived. I looked out the window to the sparkly city, and I had a feeling that I would love this place.
