When I woke up, the first thing I noticed was my pounding head. Grabbing onto my skull roughly, I willed myself to sit up to take in my surroundings. I was in a cabin. It must be Blake's cabin. The smell of oak wood was strong and slightly calming although I noticed the tense atmosphere which instantly closed the thoughts.
I looked around. I was sitting on a couch again. This is great. I yawned and that's when I saw Blake emerge from another room. Our eyes locked together. Nobody spoke a word for a moment as he took a seat next to me.
"Uh...do you remember, anything from...the attack?" He asked, looked towards me.
"A-A little." I whispered, my voice stilling trying to wake up.
"What do you remember?" He then ask. I told him the fragments that I remember, the explosion, the...gore and that was it. "So you...don't remember anything after you passed out, right?" He asked. I nodded, weirded out about why he was so concerned.
"Did something happened after I went out?" I asked.
"No, nothing. I was just...uh, I'll go get the pills to stop the headache." He said, standing up in a hurry. Before I even got a chance to speak again, he was already gone.
He returned with the bottle of pills and a cup of water, handing it to me before taking a seat on a chair on my right. I spilled the necessary amount of pills on my palm before swallowing them along with a mouthful of tap water. Once I was done, I put down the glass and pill bottle on the coffee table in front of me, turning towards Blake again. "Where's Mercede?" I asked.
"She's gone outside to check if any of them followed us here." He answered emotionlessly.
"Oh." Silence. "Y-You mentioned her...being my sister." I decided that this was the right time to bring this up. I'm scared I won't get another chance.
"I'm not gonna talk about this without her being here." He replied.
"Yeah, of course, sorry..." Why was he acting so...cold all of a sudden? Did something happen while I was gone? Or am I just over thinking this? I decided to change the subject. "Why did I just suddenly...change back there at the gas station?" I asked. I didn't know how to describe what happened. Something...turned. Maybe it was me. Maybe it was something inside of me.
Blake sighed. "I guess I gotta tell you sometime, I guess it's best to do it now..." I looked at him confusedly. "You...aren't a normal girl. You're a...You're one of them." He said.
W-What?
"What do you mean I'm one of them?!" I asked frantically. How could I possibly...?
"Calm down, I-"
"Calm down?! You're saying I'm one of those things?! How could I calm down?!"
"Vanessa, calm the fuck down, you're in a weak state right now. If you shout more, you'll hurt yourself!" He shouted, standing in fury. I sat there in shock. He never raised his voice before. I slowly turn to walk away as he grabs my arm, I jerk out of his grasp and walk over to the window just in time to see Mercedes heading towards the door. I spin around and rush upstairs, ignoring them both. I can't believe this is happening. Am I really one of them? How could I be? I'm just some messed up teen who was almost sold in a slave trade, how could such things happen to me?!
Rushing into a random room, I turned around and locked the door behind me, sliding down on the wooden surface. How is this possible...? I started sobbing, letting the overwhelming news consume me. Why...?
"Vanessa, please, come out." I suddenly heard, followed by knocks on the door behind me. I quickly back away, crawling all four to get away from Blake and Mercedes. "Please." Blake pleaded with concern.
