"This mission is very standard, you hear me? You go in, eliminate all targets." The Captain booms, "If you don't know what the targets are, it's anything that moves. "
I sit, staring up at the man, reluctantly trusting him reluctantly.
"I will make this very blunt. If you do not obey orders, you will not make it back. This zone is very hostile. Remember your training," The Captain pauses for a moment, looking around the room, and takes a breath before looking back at the company, "And try not to die, that IS an order. Load up, wheels up in five."
I look to my right, "So those that me-" I stop, realizing that he's gone, and the room is empty. Then a rumbling shakes the building, and then a roar, a helicopter. I rush up the stairs in time to load up. Rifle in hand, I hop onto the helicopter hovering only a foot or so off the ground.
I grab a cloth handle hanging from the ceiling, only to realize I only know two people on the helicopter, and they're not going to have time for me. The Second Lieutenant, and Sergeant Black. Both leaders, and both will be doing just that. So I stand in silence, and wait.
About an hour passes before a nod is exchanged between the Second Lieutenant and another figure toward the cargo door.
"Alright, soldiers!" The Second Lieutenant yells over the noise. Everyone falls silent in the dark room. "We are dropping into a dangerous zone, now grab onto something. This is going to be rough."
I see her glance at her arm-mounted PDA before nodding at the same man from before. She grins before yelling "Hold on!" once more, and she hits a large dimly lit button near where she's stood. The entire helicopter feels like it's in free-fall, people who aren't sitting down begin to rise up off the floor, as they grip their handles tighter.
Then, I feel a jerk, only slowing us down slightly, everyone's feet planting on the ground, and then another jerk, a lot harder. I see few fall over as they lose grip from their handles. And then another harder jerk. But something's different, it doesn't feel like we're falling anymore.
"We've hit ground. " The Second Lieutenant yells. "Alpha squad on me, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, follow directives. Meet back here when objectives are complete. Sergeants, sync!"
"Sync!" about five different people yell scattered throughout the helicopter.
"Eye pieces on, let's move!" The man Second Lieutenant Thompson was talking to earlier yells. Then, the door drops open with a plop.
