Three
"So, this is your mall, huh?" Mark asked when I pulled into the parking lot.
"Yep. It's actually a pretty nice mall. You'll find plenty of clothing options here. Plus there's that Target across the street for all your other manly stuff and even more clothes."
We hopped out of our new car, weapons at the ready. For the first time, I locked up my shiny black Jeep Wrangler. It felt great to finally have that car.
We didn't run into any of the undead in the parking lot, but we were expecting the worst. When we got inside the building, we tried our best to be quiet as we walked and spoke.
"So, where to first?" I asked.
"Anywhere. You haven't gotten out much since the chaos hit, right? So you might as well look at stuff too." We started walking past stores and I groaned as I passed some of them.
"I always want everything from all of these stores," I sighed.
"Well, nobody's working here. Everything is free, remember? It might not be that way everywhere, but in this town, it is. We've got to take advantage of that," Mark reminded me.
"We already stole a car. I feel bad enough about that. It doesn't feel right to steal any more things," I admitted.
"You didn't seem too bothered by it when you were driving us here. I saw that smile when you locked up," he told me. Alright, so maybe it felt good to have something I wanted, but transportation could be crucial to survival! I didn't exactly NEED more clothes or anything other than food and other necessities.
"Yes, I'm excited that I have a new car, but that doesn't make any of it okay! I don't know about you, but I've never stolen anything in my life up until a few minutes ago. I'm a good samaritan!"
"So am I, but all rules go out the window during apocalyptic situations. Now let's go into some of your favorite stores!" Even though I didn't want to, I gave in and followed Mark into one of the stores I had pointed out. It was actually kind of fun, shopping with him. I asked him for input on the things I picked out, and he pretended to be a stylist and critiqued my outfits. And then we got to the store that all guys seemed to hate - Victoria's Secret.
"Turn left, Mark," I grinned as he tried to pass it up.
"You've got to be kidding me," he grumbled.
"What? If you can get underwear today, so can I!"
"I only own one pair of underwear right now, I actually need it! I'm sure you have plenty!" he argued.
"You're the one who's been saying that we need to embrace the fact that everything in this mall is free to us. And don't even think about going into another store while I look here! Splitting up would not be a good idea. I know there has to be zombies around, we've probably just been lucky so far."
"Fine, just make it quick," he gave in. I wore a huge smile on my face as I looked around the store, grabbing things I liked in my sizes.
"If you want us to get out of here quicker, you could grab me bras to match the underwear I've picked out," I told him.
"I don't know what size you are."
"What size do you think I am?" His face quickly turned red.
"Uh...I don't...I don't know..."
"You don't have to get all flustered. All women have to wear these things, it's not a big deal," I told him as I grabbed matching bras in 34D. "Now you don't have to guess," I added. I picked out a couple more things and he seemed relieved when we exited the store.
