2 weeks later
"We have to get to the hospital! The baby is coming!", the woman screamed.
"Hold on! The ambulance is going to be here any second.", the man said. After arriving on time, their new bundle of joy was delivered on 2:34 p.m on the 9th of September, 2003.
The woman cried with joy as a nurse brought her baby. She glowed at the baby trying to capture every single feature: its small button nose, a mouth curving to a frown and its fluttering eyes taking in its first view of the world."Congratulations. You now have a baby boy.", said the nurse.
The man entered the room. His eyes fell on the tiny baby held by the love of his life. He walked over.
"Oh Edgur look at our son!", the woman cried, glad that they decided to keep the gender reveal a surprise .
The man's eyes flickered over to his baby and to her. Should he break the news? He had to. He must. He also knew it would leave a permanant hole in her heart."Janice. I have to tell you something. And you are not going to like it.", the man said slowly.
"Edgur? I don't like the sound of this..", the woman said.
The man took a big breath."My boss phoned me during your labour. He fired me and half of the staff. The market crash hit us real bad. It was a disaster. We had to shut down and fire off nearly everyone.", the man breathed quickly yet slowly enough for his wife to let all of it sink in.
"Wait. So what does that have to do with me and the baby?", she replied.
The man sighed.
"Since I'm fired, I'm practically broke. I asked everybody I know to borrow money. It was enough for us but not the baby.", he slowly said. There was a moment of dead silence in the room. Nobody moved a muscle.
The blood pressure scale grew even higher. The woman burst into an explosion of tears and cries. The man patted her but she yanked his hand away holding the squirming baby even tighter.
"Don't you dare get any closer near my baby.", the woman spat venemously.
Her eyebrows were knitted tightly together. Veins pulsed across her temples. He had never seen her act this dangerously before. They were so broke they completely ran out of money on the hospital bills. With no choice, they left their son at the hospital whom they kindly accepted.
The man had to practically drag the heartbroken mother away from their son after her last warm hugs and tender kisses. She exploded in rage and tried to pull her arm away from her husband's steel-like grip with no success. The man pulled her even further away with a heavy heart.
