Uncertainty

"Kill her," the man whispered firmly, while handing me a photo. Taking it, I examined my next victim. Even though the night was gloomy and dark, and clouds covered the light of the moon, it didn't take me any time at all to recognize the girl in the photo. My best friend. This man wanted me to kill my best friend. I was positive it was her, there was no mistaking it. Those piercing green eyes, and long, shining black hair will never leave my mind. I swallowed nervously, unsure of how to reply to the man's request. "Well?" He questioned impatiently.

"By when do you request her demise?" I whispered back, nearly chocking on my own words.

"I'll give you two weeks. If the deed isn't done by then... Well... you know what'll happen."

"I'll see what I can do."

For the first time since I was let out of the secret assassin training facility, since I was deemed the most wanted criminal of all time, a shred of uncertainty was evident in my mind as to if I could finish my job.

Nita. I couldn't kill Nita. She's the only person from my childhood that I can remember; she told me everything that she saw that day. The day I forgot.

I was only 10 years old. Nita was waiting for me outside like she always did, we walked to school together every day. She told me that something didn't feel quite right right that day, though. I was taking much longer than I normally did, and from what she's told me, I wasn't one to make her wait. It was then when she heard screams, inside my house, from both me and my parents. She ran up to the front door and was about to open it, when three men clad in all black forced the door open from the inside. They pushed Nita out of their way like she was nothing to them, and continued on, dragging me behind them. The last word she heard out of my mouth before I vanished was:

"Run."

And run she did. Nita saw the look on my face, she tells me it was full of fear, and since then, that's the only time she's ever  seen me scared. She ran back to her own home, and hid. Nobody was there when she arrived, her parents were gone. Her house was a mess, things were thrown everywhere, like somebody had been looking for something. Nita had a gut feeling that that something might have been her.

That's where Nita's journey began. As she lay hiding silently under her bed, she realized that they would come back sooner or later. She had to leave.
