As Sorano gazed upwards at the sky above him, he couldn't help but hold a hand up as if he was able to grasp the clouds in his hands. He felt so calm and relaxed, as if he were floating through space, stars seemingly sparkling amongst the purple-colored atmosphere.
But it was obvious that that wouldn't be capable of happening. How would Sorano have gotten himself in space in the first place? And how would he even stay alive if there was no oxygen in the endless void of stars and floating rocks?
Sorano was a smart kid. Brilliant, at that. Having been homeschooled for Grades 1 - 3, and having skipped Kindergarten, for someone at his age it was a miracle that he could answer questions that even a college student would have trouble with.
Finally getting a tight grasp on reality, Sorano slammed his fist against the grass, smashing small flowers under his hand, their petals flitting around in the cold but seemingly empty breeze. It was empty, just like he was. After all, one could say that 'Sorano' meant 'Empty' in Japanese. It was a title he had earned back in his early years of elementary school.
"Sora, honey, can you please come help me set the table?" A soothing voice called, waking Sorano up from his slumber. It was all just a bad dream to him. As he was about to slam his fist against the grass, his eyes widened as he quickly stopped the impact between his fist and the ground.
Opening his hand revealed a small flower, who's petals fluttered in the wind as they struggled to stay on the stem of the small plant.
"I-I'm coming, Okasan." Sorano yelled back in response as he sat up, then got back onto his feet. He struggled to stay up on his feet but managed to walk, his messy red hair blowing against his forehead in the wind as he walked through the field of flowers he had once been lying down on. Brushing the dirt off of his clothes, Sorano patted his shirt down so that there weren't any wrinkles.
Approaching his mother, Sorano blinked his eyes as he looked up at the beautiful woman that stood in the house. She looked down at the little boy that stood in front of the doorstep, his glasses perched atop the bridge of his nose and his red hair covering his eyes. Brushing some of his red hair out of his eyes, Sorano was able to get a better look at his mother.
Her beautiful smile that would shine without a care, and how the wind blew at the shades of her long, black hair. Those were the rare little things that made the tiny little boy happy.
As his mother pulled the boy into a hug, Sorano couldn't help but return the embrace back. Tears streamed down his face as his mother placed a hand on his head, looking down at him. "Sora, please prepare the table for me while I make food for your little sister, alright? You've got to be a big brother that will support her no matter what, alright?" She asked, her voice tender and calming to Sorano's ears.
Stepping into the house, Sorano wiped his eyes before nodding. "O-Okey, okasan." Sorano managed to stutter out before walking to the kitchen. Sure, his house was small, but his family owned much land for planting crops and raising animals and such, so they never had to go out and buy food.
But that also meant isolation from the rest of the world.
Sighing heavily, Sorano stepped into the kitchen and moved over to the many cupboards and drawers, opening them and grabbing three plates and three pairs of spoons and forks before setting them on placemats his mother had placed so neatly for him already. As he placed the plates and other utensils on the table, Sorano couldn't help but close his eyes and think to himself until he had noticed that he had placed all of the plates and spoons and forks on the table. Taking his seat, Sorano watched as his mom served rice and steak for lunch. "Itadakimas, okasan." He replied before eating contently.
Sorano knew he would never forget such a pretty smile.
