The sun had woken me up. I'm still sensitive to light.
I look in my tiny mirror. I look like shit. My head is pounding. I take a painkiller. It stops the pounding. I brush out my short hair and pick out what to wear. I have the choice of jean shorts or jean pants and an FBI shirt. I pick the shorts. I look around my small odd-shaped room and spot a pain of white flip-flops. I wear those.
Once I look not-high I open the hatch on the trap-door and walk down. Zelda follows and I let her outside. I'm in the kitchen. It must be early because no one is up yet, and the sun is still rising. I open the fridge. Eggs, bacon, milk, a pitcher of water, bagels (they stay fresher in the fridge), butter, and orange juice. I grab a glass from the cupboard and poor myself a glass of orange juice. I'm not hungry.
I notice a note on the counter. It's from Sophia. It reads. "Your bus picks up right outside the house at 6:00am on the dot." I look at the clock. It's 4:00am now. I got time. "I had to go to work. ~Sophia."
I don't think I need to wake Gav yet. Maybe in a half of an hour. I go back up to my room and look around again. I notice a few more things. I have a analog clock. I found a watch. I found an old typewriter under my bed and set it up on the desk. It has extra ink cartridges and it works great. I might send a lot of time writing.
I go back down stairs and put my glass in the sink to wash. I wash the glass and return it to its place. I pick up the news paper and step outside.
I sit on the hammock and read the crime section. This paper is from Montgomery. I look at the missing persons cases. I look for girls who would be about my age with brown hair and hazel eyes. Nothing. I look at the main story. "Mass slaughter of Young Girls Screams Serial Killer!" I read the story. Interesting...
I look at my clock. 5:15. I should wake Gavin.
I creep down the basement stairs. I turn in the light. The room is square shaped. He has the same basic things as me. I see him sleeping on the bed. "Gav," I say as I lightly shake him, "Time to wake up and go to school,"
His eyes register what's happening. He gets up. "Ok," he sighs.
I let Zelda back in and she follows me. I walk back to my room and get my black backpack. I open the desk drawers and grab 5 pencils, 2 pens, 5 note books, and other random office supplies. Sharpies, tape, staples, etc. I walk back down.
I check my watch. 5:50. "Gavin!" I yell, "Grab a water bottle! Bus leaves in 10minutes!"
Gavin runs up the stairs and grabs a uncooked bagel. He eats that as we start the walk up the driveway. It takes about five minutes to get all the way up the drive. The bus pulls up. Good thing we went early. I'll remember the pickup time. "Yu must be new," a grouchy lady with a mole on her cheek says to us as we walk on, "I'm the bus driver. Rules are don't do something stupid, and boys and girls sit separately. No PDA either."
Me and Gav hug good-bye and I take an empty seat in the middle. Gav finds one in the back with a uncheck of other guys.
Someone hits me on the head. I turn around and punch them in the face. "Ouch!" The girl who hit me says, "Prick!" She is holding her nose. I didn't even hit her hard.
The girl next to me shoves me out of the seat. I hit my stomach. I have burns still there. I wince in pain.
I find a new seat next to a lonely looking girl. "Can I sit here?" I ask her.
"Are you going to do something to me?" The girl asks.
"No" I sit down, "I'm Jackie." I hold my hand out to shake.
