I turn the lights down low.
Walk these halls alone.
We can feel so far
From so close.
Alice's POV:
This week had definitely been the most eventful. It was becoming hard to keep up with everything. Throughout all this chaos, I had managed to pose as the doctor’s assistant and now had every single medication in the building. It was a pretty big feat for small piece in the puzzle like myself. In addition to this, I had discovered more Rebels. It was now noted that Rolin's roommate, Rachelle, was a Rebel. Along with her was Professor Charlie Marcs and a roommate of my own, Jenny Walsh. I also had my sister, Natalie, spying on Rolin when I couldn’t. It appeared like I could do no wrong, then Derrick Preston entered the picture.
His appearance kick-started an even more eventful week. It had definitely sparked back life into this dreadful existence. He already had already obtained a reputation by crossing Rolin, a girl I would personally not like to tick off. As if he couldn’t get any more famous, he was also son to Daniel Warring's right hand man.
His chestnut brown hair and penetrating eyes were making a majority of the girls here swoon. They followed him around everywhere, which made following him ten times harder. There were times when he would just disappear into a crowd, and I became incapable of finding him. I needed to get close to analyze him. I had hoped his fan base would die down within a week, but it only seemed to escalate. He became the topic for every conversation. Everywhere I turned, he was there mocking me. I had to start taking stuff from my medicinal stash for all the headaches he was giving me.
"Alice!" Natalie called to me from across the hallway. I quickly ushered over to her and caught her in an enormous embrace.
"Suffocating me-" Natalie managed to get out as I gave her another tight squeeze.
"So, what do you have for me?" I asked eagerly hoping for good news.
"Well, Dakota freaked last night when she found out all the meds were gone. She started muttering about how she was doomed or something along those lines. Derrick humiliated Rolin again, and she threatened to knock The Union out of him. Oh, and that cute boy from the second floor asked me out to dinner with him!" Natalie said all in one breath. I smiled at her exuberance and took a moment to soak it all in.
"Aw, I'm happy for you, Sis! Now more about Derrick...what exactly did he do this time?" I questioned.
"He and his roommates, Justin and James-"
"Justin and James are his roommates?"
"Yes, don't interrupt. He and his roommates were heading over to the cafeteria when they bumped into Rolin and Dakota. At first, Derrick just completely ignored Rolin, but then he asked her how the view from the back of the classroom was. You can imagine how she took that one."
I chuckled to myself. Derrick was certainly pushing the wrong buttons. Knowing Rolin, she wouldn’t stand for it much longer. I bet she was probably planning a counter attack right now. I would love to join in on that fight.
It was becoming harder and harder to not just let the secret go and tell Rolin everything. I definitely trusted her and admired her attitude, but I still couldn’t get past putting everything I had worked for in jeopardy. I also wanted something to prove myself that would gain her immediate respect like information on Derrick or a new meeting place for Rebels. Seeing as though neither of those options were exactly working out at the moment, I was in waiting.
