"Adaline! Get up! You have to be at the school in 10 minutes. And if you want me to do your hair, get up!"

"Oh my gosh. Hair, check. Outfit, check. Make-up, check." I said, as I lit a cigarette.

"Why don't you ever listen. Why do you need to always rebel?" she said, wiping her wrinkly hands on her dish towel.

I laughed and rolled my eyes. Walking over to the door, I slid on my black converse and breathed outa breath of smoke, "Bye mum."

"Bye Adaline. Me and Jim will be there at 3:20." She smiled and I slammed the door. I hopped onto my black and purple long board and rode down my quiet bumpy road. Slowly letting every drag out.

"Hey babe!" I was greeted by my best friend Harley.

She was dressed in a nice set blue sparkly dress, curled hair, ice blue nails and ridiculously over diamond sandals.

"Seriously Adaline!? You couldn't dress up at all? You had to wear black skinny jeans and a black T-shirt to our graduation?" She complained, motioning to all the other girls in dresses and high heels.

"Aye, I curled my luchious purple hair." I joked, exaggerating the last part. Resulting in her smiling.

"All Claire High students report to your assigned seats please." Mrs. Crawley said over the loud speakers set up in different areas around the graduation set up.

Everyone was called up to the stage, finally it was me. Adaline Zephore. The valedictorian. I strudded up to the stage and smiled in front of my whole class.

"Hello. Fellow students. I am Adaline Zephore and I'm proud to be your valedictorian. Our school had its ups and downs but so does every school. The football team winning the championship. The chest majors getting us 10 Awards this year. The art program naming us the best art school in California. Really the only tragic thing that happened was losing Annabelle Harpmin. So tragic. I am so very proud to declare us all adults and that move on to greater things in life. Children, marriage, jobs-" I stopped telling my speech and stared at the scene in front of me.

A man. Tearing open. . A woman. Her screaming started out very loud. But dissipated slowly. In a split second everyone ran in different directions. I threw my gown and cap to the floor and ran to my longboard.

I started quickly riding down the streets trying to avoid these creatures. These things, they were humans. Were, as in past tense. Their bodies were grey and ripped up. Their eyes blood shot and never blinked. They had razor sharp teeth and ripped you open with no hesitation.

The road to my house was completey packed with these things. So, I quickly turned my head looking for a alternative route. Bad move. The next thing I know, I am pinned to the ground by a middle aged man. But he's not a man anymore. He was snarling and snapping at me. He looked desperate. I was struggling in pushing him off. His nails scraped up my leg, ripping my pants and drawing blood. The next thing I know, a bat is smacking into the things head.

"Get up!" I hear Harley's voice say. I stood up and looked Harley over. She is covered in blood. Her dress ripped in multiple places.

"What the hell is going on!" I screamed.

"I don't know, but here take this," she started, handing me a crowbar, "go home, be with your mom, for however long we have left." And with that, she was gone.

I whipped around and ran down the street to my house. Running up the driveway, I let out a deep breath when I was finally inside. I slid down the door, pushing my hair back. Thinking back on the last hour and what happened.

"Adaline? Is that you?" I heard my mom, shakily say.

"Yes, yes it is." I said, running up and hugging her. "Mommy, why are people eating each other!?"

"Come sit down and watch." She said, sitting back on the couch. I sat next to her, waiting to find out what's going on.

"The state of California is not safe. A flu has taken over and there is no cure. The infected individuals have increased aggression. They will not stop. The only way any government officials or police forces have been able to stop them is to destroy the brain. Please stay calm, if you encounter an infected individual do not make contact. If you are bitten or scratched make your way to the nearest medical facility. May God be with you."

I thought to myself, my scratch....

And that's when all power cut out.
