Campfire

This is a poem I wrote for someone in my life. But now he is no longer inside my life. Now all I have left are my empty feelings and my regret that he never knew me.

We are stars, shinning through the night,
But since we are stars,
We can never be together,
Because we must always be apart.

I've remembered you,
And lost my mind again,
Now, starting today, I'm nothing but,
A burnt marshmallow.

Unwanted and unloved,
Wanted by some,
I may be better underneath,
But he'll only ever see me,
From what's on my outside.

As the fire burns alight,
We keep company to the night,
And the embers will fly high.

But never will I have you,
My treasured dear, by my side,
Because you've found one,
Who you must love.
