~Two Hours Before The Reaping~

Finn's Point Of View

"Today is The Reaping. Today is The Reaping..." That same sentence ran through my head a countless number of times. Jack seemed reletively OK, I was... well, you could say OK, but I was still scared. Mum, on the other hand, was shaking. She broke down crying multiple times in the last few hours that Jack and I were still at the house. We did all that we could to help her, since Dad wasn't there.

Last year, Dad and I went to the small market in the center to buy some food for us. After he was finished buying, he started to walk over to where he had left me standing. Out of nowhere, a Peace-Keeper came up to him and accused him of stealing, all though he did nothing. He was taken in front of everythe whole market, and whipped to death... I watched. I watched as my own father was brutally murdered.

After I told my mum about the incident, she's never been the same. She's always been... distant. Jack and I were only 11 at the time, so we were forced to take care of ourselves and our mum.

"Look at you two," my mum said while entering the room. "You look so grown up... I hope that you get nice looking for nothing."

Finn hugged our mum while she silently cried into his shoulder. She's always been afraid that our names will get called, but so far nobody in our family has gone onto the platform.

"Jack, come here." She mumbled while wiping her cheeks.

I stood up and walked over to her. She wrapped her arms around me and I hugged her back.

"It's going to be fine," I whispered.

"Of course it's going to be fine, I'm just worried." She replied in a soft sob.

"Nobody in our family has ever been called, what makes you think either of us will get called?"

"Yeah mum. There's no need to worry about us." Finn included.

She let me go and went over to hug Finn. She kissed him on the cheek and told us to go get some things from the market. We smiled and quickly headed out, not wanting to leave her alone on the saddest day of the year.

~1 hour later~

After picking up food and supplies from a nice lady named Maria at the market, we hugged our mum one last time and began walking to the center of town. That's where The Reaping was to be taking place soon. Finn and I knew that the line to get checked in for The Reaping would take quite a while to get cleared out, so we decided to go early.

While waiting, we saw some old friends from school who looked like they were about to pass out from fear. I chuckled at some of them and received the evil eye from a few of them for that, but it was entertaining for me, atleast.

Our fingers were pricked and our blood was put into a book. Finn always tends to be a bit queasy when he sees blood, yet he claims blood doesn't bother him... I don't buy it. We walked to the back of the group since we're both 17 and since we're both quite tall, we had no trouble seeing over everyone else's heads.

After waiting for about 10 minutes, Branson, the announcer, walked up to the podium in quite the uh... outfit. I'm tempted to call it a costume, but I guess that is the normal attire in the Capitol, after all.

Last year his outfit included dark navy pants and a dark green blazer with a red tie, which didn't compliment his light pink hair. Actually, nothing he wore complimented each other. But this year it was worse. He had on a green and blue checkered vest over a white long-sleeve shirt with orange jeans and blue sneakers, his hair was even a darker pink.
