A/N:This is one my first stories I've wrote that isn't fanfiction so it would be great to hear (or read cause I can't exactly hear your thoughts). So please feel free to say what you enjoyed or hated about this story and what needs to be improved.

21st Century

What is time travelling? Time travelling is a concept of science...isn't it? For years we have been told it was all science, time travelling. But can you be born with a gene to travel back in time or is it just a bit of science? Maybe even an ablitlty that you only read about in stories. My name is Kailey Lara Fitzgerald and I was born with the ablitlty to time travel, or so I think it's an ablitlty.

As far as I know, I am the only time traveller in existence. I found out my ability when I one day found myself in the Victorian era. How I knew I time travelled, well, I was in town when it happened. I started off surrounded by these many people in modern clothes, and then suddenly I was surrounded by ladies in Victorian-styled dresses and men in Victorian-styled suits. Another indication that maybe I wasn't normal, when I cut my super long black hair the next day it grew back to its original state. My hair never grows nor does it like the short length. My parents find my weirdness...well weird but they love me all the same. If they don't, they don't show it. I can't tell my friends my special power; they would think I'm a freak. Than what would I be left with? This time travelling experience has happened many times before, I space out. I've never fully disappeared not until that time I was in town. My parents used to say I had a vivid imagination. When I disappeared in town and came back, my parents were arguing about imagination. My dad believed that my mother was seeing things, which she insisted she wasn't. How could she imagine her sixteen year old daughter disappearing and then returning ten metres from where she originally was...it wasn't something you made up, was it? My dad only started to believe Mum when I disappeared in the house in front of the pair of them; I ended up twenty metres from where I was previously. That's when I knew I was special.

"Kailey there is somebody here for you." My mother called, I sat staring at my white wall. That's all I've been doing recently. "Kailey, can you hear me? KAILEY! KAILEY LARA FITZGERALD COME DOWN HERE RIGHT THIS GODDAMN MINUTE BEFORE I DRAG YOU OUT!" I moved quickly, stumbling down some of the stairs.

"Yes Mum you called?" I said, looking at the man stood next to her. That definitely wasn't my dad. How I know this? My dad doesn't own a black suit, not even a suit of any sorts. He also didn't make an effort to keep his dark hair tidy because when he went to work it would get dirty and ruined anyway. This man had deep blue eyes that swished like the sea unlike my dad's forest green eyes. "Who's that?"

"This Kailey is Mr Cordell." My mum introduced Mr Cordell.

"Please just call me Wesley; Mr Cordell is much too formal. Not to say it's my father's name." Mr Cordell, Wesley, said to me.

"You look like a formal person though. With your black suit and well kept shoes. Not to mention the hair Mr Cordell." I replied looking the man up and down.

"Kailey!" My mum snapped, "Don't be rude." Mr Cordell waved his hand.

"Its fine, I do look a bit formal. It's part of the uniform." He told us.

"Who do you work for the Men in Black?" I asked him with a hint of sarcasm.

"Close but no I don't work for the Men in Black. Sorry." He replied.

"That was a joke." I told him "Mum why is he here?"

"Funny you ask actually. I'm here because you have the ability." He said. I looked at my mum. I can't believe she told him. When I looked into her eyes I saw them reflecting my shock. "Your mother didn't tell me nor did your father. You're just a rare case. Every new century two time travellers are picked to have the gene and..."
