21st Century

"Are we there yet?" I asked, Wesley rolled his eyes for the hundredth time.

"No Kailey! I told you this, oh I don't know, ONE MINUTE AGO!" Wesley yelled. I shrunk back into my chair.

"Sorry." I told him. Wesley looked at me, and sighed deeply.

"Its fine, I shouldn't have yelled at you the way I did." Wesley came and scooted next to me. "Do you need a hug?"

"No you weirdo!" I squeaked before he got me in a hug. He's like my older brother already and I've only know him for a day. "Wesley, how old are you?"

"Why do you want to know?" He asked.

"Well you're like my older brother, how you've looked after me and all." I answered honestly. Something in Wesley's face flickered.

"I'm 29." He replied, smiling softly at me. I nodded and looked out the window. We've been in this car for nearly the whole day. The greenery outside looked amazing compared to what it's like back home in London. I saw an enormous old building. "Ah look we're nearly there." Wesley pointed to the exact building. I looked at him in awe.

"That is massive! How many people live there?" I asked excited.

"Oh not that many people really! There are two time-travellers, one instructor, and sometimes the time travellers before." Wesley replied, "It also has some cleaners and people that transport you to places like Jett." I nodded,

"That's pretty big for only a small group of people, isn't it?" I looked at Wesley, he shook his head and said no more.

Around five o'clock we arrived at the institute. It was ten times bigger than my home, with rich decorations. This was just the outside! There were some people standing outside the door waiting. Once we pulled up, they got straight to carrying our bags in. I ran in after them and admired the inside. The stairs were gold and red, and twice the size of my stairs at home. The foyer was marble with gold pillars. I wonder if the pillars are actually gold. The windows were massive and tainted. They were like church windows; however they didn't have religious people on them. They had images of people I've never seen in my life. I continued to marvel at the window with twins, not realising Wesley walking up behind me.

"They were the founders of this place." I shot up into the air. Wesley laughed at me as I glared. "They were the Heron brothers, Oliver and Jonas." I studied the window closely. I saw the clothing they wore weren't like the others, they were shabbier. They were like pirates clothes.

"Who were they? I mean what did they do?" I asked. Wesley looked at the window with me.

"They were pirates. However they weren't the first time travellers." Wesley told me. I looked up at Wesley confused. He placed one hand on my shoulder, leading me away from the windows.

"You'll learn more in your lessons."

"What are my lessons going to be about?" I was curious as to what we actually learn.

"You'll learn: History of Time Travellers, controlling your jumping, fighting, this century language thing that I don't even know, and just normal history." I groaned; I seriously hated history. I was good, don't get me wrong but I just hated it. "Come on you have to learn history, you can't just turn up somewhere and speak about the skyscrapers in New York. You have to learn every minor detail about the years."

"But history, you must be trying to kill us."

I walked behind Wesley as he led me to a huge oak door. "What's in there?"

"This is where you will meet your instructor and the other time traveller. You will learn the rules and get your timetable of sorts. They might even introduce the previous time traveller." Wesley knocked on the door. He said 'previous time traveller' not travellers, what happened to the other one? I went to ask but I was shushed before I got the chance. Inside the room was just as grand as the foyer, however it was smaller. Sat at a desk was an ancient man whose hair was short and scraggly. His face looked weary and his nose, well his nose was the size of my hand. He looked into my eyes, causing mine to divert to the back of a boy's head. From all I could see was he had short black hair that was up in a quiff. His clothes looked expensive from the crisp jacket he wore. Wesley shoved me in further, causing me to trip over my feet. I barely managed to stay standing, in doing so I knocked over a few things. Me and the ancient man both winced as the metal objects hit the marble floor. The loud clanging caused the boy to turn around. I stared at him. His face was perfection, in my thoughts. The way his chocolate brown eyes twinkled in the light like stars at night, made me melt inside. His high cheekbones made me want to reach out and touch them. I bet he even had the perfect muscles. Somebody coughed, which broke me out from my trance.

"You must be Kailey Lara Fitzgerald, no?" The ancient man spoke. Unlike his appearance, his voice sounded powerful and commanding.

"Erm yeah. I mean yes sir." I spoke quickly, feeling intimidated by this old man. The boy in the seat stared me down. The old man motioned to the chair.

"Sit down Miss Fitzgerald; don't want you to tire your legs out." I quickly sat down and stared at the man in front of me. "Now that you're both here, welcome. Welcome to the Institute of Time. This will be a brief introduction and then you shall be lead to your rooms. These are your timetables." He hand us both sheets of paper. "Do not be late for any of your lessons, there will be consequences. Next I shall introduce all of us. My name is Professor Dempster. Over by the door is Wesley Cordell, you will learn more about his role here in your lessons." We both turned and Wesley waved to us, I waved back. "Miss Fitzgerald this is Mr Evan Prince. Mr Prince this is Miss Kailey Fitzgerald." We turned to look at each other; Evan scowled at me however I ignored it and smiled brightly. Just because one of us doesn't like the other doesn't mean we have to be the same. I stuck my hand out for Evan to shake however he rudely ignored it. I turned to Professor Dempster. "There are rules here if any are broken we will not hesitate to expel you. First..." Evan interrupted the professor,

"This isn't really a school though is it? You can't exactly expel us, you need us." Evan's voice was beautiful. It was low and alluring, it made you just want to listen to him. If he told you to kill a man you would do it. He spoke like he was higher than any man (and women) in the room.

"Mr Prince to YOU this is a school. YOU are LEARNING to control your jumps. We adults are here voluntary; we could leave the institute at anytime if you continue to treat us with that attitude! So if you please Mr Prince, be quiet!" The professor emphasised 'you' and 'learning', he started to raise his voice near the end of his speech. Unlike most people, Evan didn't cower into his chair. He still held his head up high and refused to be intimidated by the aging man.

For the rest of the time we spent in the office, not a sound was made by the boy next to me. We were sent to our rooms (I was shown by a nice young lady named Anita). My room was humungous; it was ten times bigger than my one back home. The bed was a double and the designs on the covers were enticing. I ignored the rest of my room and flew into bed. I landed softly and bounced, it was like lying on a cloud. I found my belongings to the side of the room and underneath my pillow were my pyjamas. I was scared because somebody else must have gone through my stuff, if they had I hope it was Anita; I wouldn't want a man to go through it. I changed and laid my head on the pillow. As soon as it touched the softness of the pillow I fell into a dreamless sleep.
