I tore through the old shelves trying to find food that hadn't passed it's expiration date, coming up with some success. At the back of the shelves I found a box filled with Ramen packages. I smiled faintly at my luck. These things could last practically forever and they could even be eaten dry if necessary.

With the box in my hands I searched the run down store for a while longer, coming across a jar filled with salt and canned goods that I stashed in my backpack quickly. I glanced at my watch. I was already due back at the hideout. I grabbed a few water bottles and stuffed them into my bag before picking the box back up then quickly leaving the old, beaten-down Wal-Mart and heading for "civilization".

I looked around cautiously as I walked. I was worried a zombie would see me walking in plain sight in the broken, dirty parking lot, but nothing but me moved.

Everything was dusty and ruined. There was garbage littering the ground. The air felt thick like it was filled with diseases. I felt jumpy the entire time I walked.

I was relieved when I made it back to base without indecent. "Base" was an old 1 story house that looked ready to collapse in on itself at any moment. I flew up the stairs quickly and knocked on the door several times. A face quickly peered through the glass. The door was quickly opened for me and I walked in without hesitation.

"How'd it go, Jayden?" Jack asked. He was the guy who'd opened the door for me. Jack had short black hair and glasses. There was dust evident on his clothes and face.

"Pretty well, actually. I got a pretty large loot and zero run-ins with the zombies." I replied with a small smile and handed him the box, which he opened quickly.

"That's a lot of Ramen." He mumbled and I nodded.

"I have some other stuff in my bag." I informed him. "Let's get it with the rest of the stuff we've got in storage."

We headed quickly to the storage, nodding at a few others who we'd passed. We went down and short set of stairs into the storage room. We had to duck to stand up in it.

Jack set the box down near our other food, like canned goods and rice while I emptied my bag of it's contents. I quickly piled the food with everything else and the water away from the food. We didn't want any chance of the water leaking into the food and ruining it.

Jack and I quickly left the storage room and I accidentally bumped into one of the girls at the base.

"Woah! Sorry, Ella." I said quickly. She shrugged.

"It's fine." She said, but I seriously doubted it from the death glare she was giving me. "Did you have any luck finding any food?"

"Yeah, I got more than usual, actually." I replied and she nodded slowly and walked away without replying. I stared after her for a second. One day I'd have to ask her why exactly she hated me.

"Man, she really hates you. What did you do to her?" Jack asked me, a smirk on his face.

"Other than cause the apocalypse?" I questioned back, realizing why she hated me.

"Good point." He replied quickly. "That's explains why she hates you." Jack walked away quickly, leaving me there alone.

I wondered if I'd accidentally killed people she cared about. I mentally smacked myself. Of course I'd accidentally killed people she cared about. I'd accidentaly killed a lot of people. It'd been almost a year since the incident and I'd just now realised how many people had died because of me.

I thought back to how it all happened. I'd been in my chemistry class like normal and was about to mix two chemicals together when the person at the station next to me accidentally blew up their project, making me spill all of the chemicals together.
