Do I Know You

I arrived at my youth group with my best friend Jay. Since I'm not the popular one among us, I prefer to stay in the back. Shortly after I got there, I heard a bunch of girls scream. I looked to where all the racket was coming from and I saw a lot of girls crowded around this one small girl.

I couldn't tell what she looked like. When they broke away, I could get a clear sight of her. She was short. She looked about 13 or 14. She had short, reddish- brunette hair with streaks of blonde. I had never seen anyone with her color of hair before.

She was thin. She wore black skinny jeans and a Mountain Dew shirt. I looked down at her shoes and I saw that she was wearing a pair of red converse. All around I thought she was rather good looking. She went over to the ping pong table and challenged my friend Jack.

They played until the girl won. She laughed and walked over to me. "Would you like to play?" She asked me. Her voice was soft and sweet. Before I could say anything, our leader, Bryce, called us to attention.
"Today we will be having an egg toss! You have to have one partner. Go!" He yelled.

I turned to my friend Jay because I wanted him to be my partner, but he picked his friend Al. I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I turned around to see the girl looking up at me. "Would you like to be my partner?" She asked me.

I smiled. "I would love to," I replied. She smiled back. "Great! I'm Jane," she said. "I'm Sam," I told her. Bryce gave one person in each pair of partners an egg. She handed it to me. "You get this on my shirt and I will murder you," she said.

I nodded quickly. We all went outside. The game started. It was going good for a while, until the egg cracked slightly in my hands. I remembered Jane's words in my head. I had to throw it. I threw it. It broke. All. Over. Her.

Her face turned into a mixture of rage and regret. "I'm gonna kill you!" She screamed. She stormed off to the bathroom to clean herself off. I followed after her. "Jane I'm sorry! It was an accident!" I pleaded with her.

"I swear as soon as I get out! I'll say your bloody body was an accident!" She screamed at me. As soon as she shoved the bathroom door open, I slumped down in a seat and waited for her to get done. I waited a few minutes, then I saw her come out.

I fought back tears. She walked over to me. She balled up her fist and pulled her arm back. "Go ahead. Punch me. I deserve it," I turned my head so she could punch me in the neck. She hesitated. She put her fist down.

Then, she hugged me. I was surprised. "I'm sorry I yelled at you. I was mad. Now I realize it really was an accident. I'm sorry, Sam," she said. "Umm, thank you for not punching me," I said. "Can we be friends?" She asked me.

"Sure," I said. We sat in silence while they finished the game. I looked at the girl again and she looked at me. "Do I know you from somewhere?" She asked me. "I don't think so. I've never seen a girl like you around here," I replied.

"A girl like me," she repeated. From then on we sat in silence. Not a word spoken to each other the rest of the night.
