Just as I was making Adam a sandwich for lunch, there was a knock at the door. I wasn't sure who'd be knocking, but I was busy. "Adam, can you get that?"
He opened the door and in busted Danny, his hand full with two huge bags of dog food, and a puppy trailing behind him. Wide-eyed, I said, "Danny, I can't take care of a dog. Don't you think I have enough on my plate?"
"Oh, nonsense," Danny said, walking up to me. "I already bought you two months worth of food, and it can teach Adam some responsibility. Not to mention, look how happy he is."
He really did look happy. He was sitting on the floor, petting the dog and playing with it. He had the biggest smile as he laughed, letting the dog lick his face. "What's her name, Danny?"
"It's whatever you want it to be, sport."
I couldn't help but smile. Adam hadn't looked that happy in a long time. He played with her ears and smiled, "Her name is gonna be Lucy!"
"How can you say no to that face?" Danny said, kneeling down to pet the dog as well.
I rolled my eyes, "I guess I can't."
"Hey, now that I'm not busy anymore, do you wanna play monopoly?"
As the boys played boardgames, I realized we were out of milk and bread, and a few other things. "Danny, I have to run to the store, would you mind watching Adam?"
"Of course not," He smiled, as he was sent jail. "You can take my car."
He tossed me the keys and I headed out. Turning on the radio, I realized he had his own CD in the player. I listened to Someone, Somewhere on the way to the grocery store. I picked up the few things I needed and then went to the checkout line. The bag-boy was a few years younger than me, and he gasped, "Hey, I know you!"
"Huh?" I asked as he handed me my bags.
He quickly pulled out his phone and showed me some pictures on twitter. "You and your kid had breakfast with Danny Worsnop this morning! Are you a thing? Is he here? Can I meet him?"
"Sorry, kid. He isn't with me. And no, we're not a thing."
I couldn't believe that I was on the Internet, and my breakfast date-- no, not date, just breakfast-- was a trending in the rock scene after only a few hours.
When I got back to the house, I pulled out my phone and found the pictures. "Danny, look at this!"
"Oh, yeah,"He nodded, standing up. "I saw those earlier. Oh well."
"I can't believe people took pictures of us at IHOP."
"You're with a rockstar now, get used to it," He chucked. I raised an eyebrow and his face dropped. "Oh, I didn't mean with as in with-with. I mean with like when you're around me--"
"Calm down, Danny," I laughed, kneeling down and petting Lucy.
"Pssh, I'm calm," He laughed, sitting down on the couch. He looked to Adam. "Hey mister, have you ever been to rock show?"
"Nope," Adam said.
"Would you like to go to one?"
Adam practically jumped into Danny's lap. He cried out, "Yes! Why, are you going to one? Can I come?"
"He doesn't know I'm in the best band on the planet?"
I gasped, "You're in One Direction?"
"I will not hesitate to crash the car next time you're in it," Danny laughed. "No, really. We're doing a benefit downtown tonight. Do you guys wanna come?"
"Adam's too little for that stuff," I said, shaking my head.
"Adam will be safely sitting stage-side," Danny said, ruffling his hair. "Please?"
"Please mom?"
I let out a big breath. "I suppose."
"Yay!" They both cheered. Danny said, "Go get ready, and I'll make Adam look like a little bad ass, okay?"
"I'll be back in a minute."
I grabbed some clothes out of the hall closet, that I used as mine, and changed in the bathroom. I pair of shredded up black jeans, my boots, and a long sleeve corset top. I let my hair down and straightened it, something I rarely did anymore.
When I went back into the living room, Danny had spiked Adam's hair into a mohawk, and he was wearing an little Asking shirt blue flannel over top of it. I laughed, "I bought that flannel for him, but where'd the band tee some from?"
"I brought it in the car. I had this all planned out," Danny laughed. "What I didn't plan is for you to look a million fucking times out of my league."
I rolled my eyes, "What about you, do you need to get ready?"
"Yeah, we have to stop by my house. Lets go."
Danny drove for awhile, then pulled up to a huge house. "This is like my house times a million!" Adam said in awe as we followed Danny inside. He unlocked the door and the inside of the house was so nice. Everything matched and it looked like something you'd see in a magazine.
"Sure, it's nice," Danny shrugged, "But it's lonely."
"My mom and I can keep you company if you want," Adam laughed, running down all the different hallways. "I'd love to stay."
Danny chuckled and walked up the stairs, "I'll be right back, make yourself at home."
That's when I realized something about Danny. He wasn't just a coke-head rockstar. For the passed three days, he had saved my ass. It was crazy how well Adam got along with him, and I was kind of confused on why he was doing it all. Most guys don't go after a twenty-two year old girl with 5 year old kid. But Danny was.
He came back down the stairs in black jeans similar to mine, and a black denim vest. His hair was all combed and he smiled, "Do I look good enough for you?"
"You look great, Danny!" Adam said, holding up his hand in a 'rock on' sign, "Now let's go get wild!"
"Alright, kiddo. Calm down," I laughed pushing him out the door and back into the car.
The show was really loud as we sat on the side, Adam was watching with such excitement as he jumped up and down. He knew a few of the songs, from me listening to Asking in the past, but he was just syked that he was at his first concert.
Then in a break, Danny said, "I have a special guest here today, he's only five years old. He's the shit though, I want you to all welcome Adam to his first concert!"
Danny waved a hand and Adam came running out on stage, and Danny picked him up with one arm. I heard "awes" and cheering, and I started to cry I had never seen him so happy. Wiping my face, Danny waved me out, too. Adam said into his microphone, "Come on, mommy!"
I walked out, wiping my face some more. Danny smiled, "This is Adam's mom. I haven't known her very long but I'm really glad we met."
I gave Danny a hug and took Adam from him, letting him continue with the show. Now we'd really be all over the Internet. "Why are you crying, mom? Aren't you happy?"
"Happier than ever," I smiled through my tears, kissing Adam's forehead.
I put him down and he smiled, "Danny's a good guy, isn't he?"
"Yeah," I smiled. "He really is."
