~**~Chapter 9~**~

Arabelle could barely wait to get to the office the next morning. She did her everyday routine organizing files and checking the calendar before briefing Dahveed whenever he came. She didn’t wait for him to call her, but instead she followed him to his office.

“Is there a problem miss Arabelle?” his stoic face revealed nothing.

“Yes, sir. There is something I need to tell you.” Arabelle took a deep breath, fidgeted twice and then swallowed, loudly.

“The day has barely begun. There is so much to do, so please don’t waste my time.” The anger was resurfacing.

“I want to tell you something about Ashley.” She said and he froze in his majestic chair before his face transformed into a raging storm of anger.

“Sir, she is lying to you! She doesn’t love you and she is cheating on you, sir!” Arabelle didn’t care about his anger. All she wanted was for him to know the truth about the superficial woman. Dahveed on the other hand seemed to be shaking with anger.

“And you know this, how?” his voice could barely be heard.

“I…uh…I went to her house yesterday!”

“WHAT!?”

“Sir, I know you’ll feel bad and I hate to be the one to deliver such a bundle of bad news…but sir, she only wants your money not your love; Which is why she is extracting money from you through her apathetic bills!” she was wringing her hands with nerves because nothing ever went as planned with her angry boss.

“Have you gone mad!” he boomed and again she ignored him.

“But sir, she is deceiving you!” why wasn’t he believing her?

“SHUT UP! Just shut up!” Arabelle did exactly that and stared up at his tall angry frame. “This is the problem with middle class people like you!” and there goes the societal status jab that she abhorred. “I treated you with some kindness and you’re taking advantage of it at very corner!” didn’t he ever get tired of that line? I opened up to you a little bit and now you’ve forgotten your limits!” Arabelle could not believe her ears! Talk about ungrateful! “Who Ashley is, what she is doing to me, whether she loves me or not, when and why I pay her bills is all my business!” he sneered and the hurt flashed through her heart again.

“I know sir. But I was only trying…”

“Don’t forget your limits! You’re an employee in this office. Just an ordinary and nosy assistant!”

“To help…” she finished with a sigh. He didn’t have to rub salt in the wound. She already knew where she stood thanks to his every day if not every hour reminders!

“For the last time, STOP interfering in my personal life! Henceforth, I do NOT want to hear a word about Ashley from your mouth! Understood?” she nodded and left his office as he demanded. This wasn’t how she’d envisioned him reacting. A thank you or anything else would’ve been better!

She went the day angry she could barely stand in room without muttering to herself. She couldn’t remember a time being this furious. Just who did he think he was? She was trying to help but he made it look like she had nothing better than to nag him or ‘to interfere in his personal life’ as he usually put it.

When he called her in the office a little after lunch, she was still in a rotten mood. “Draft this dictation and mail it to our New York client. Here goes.” He said and Arabelle wanted to hit him. She’d never been one to resort to violence, but she had quite an urge at the moment.
