Sirens roaring. Police cars and ambulances block the way. Police tapes stating 'Do not cross' in bold black letters, scattered in the whole place. Policemen take their places and take out their weapons. Nurses and doctors sent, bring injured or worse yet— dead people in the ambulances. Investigators inspect and study the cases in the incident. Photojournalists take images of the crime scene. News reporters hold out their microphones and broadcast the event occurring live. People surround the whole incident and started whispering, murmuring, and gossiping all about it.
I push myself through the crowd and excuse myself for coming through. It's a hard struggle because my shoes always get stepped on (and usually I bring my newest shoes in work) and some of body parts get bumped on.
As I got inside the police tapes, I straighten up my clothes and fix myself and start to work. I go over to the Investigating department by the entrance of the building. I passed the ambulances, some blood spilling over the asphalt road, the policemen planning places for their new position, more police tapes, and more. And... there.
"Miracle! Thank God you're here." Evan Smith, my co-worker, patted my back and handed me papers vigorously. I scan the papers and analyze the words typed in Times New Roman. There were five pages in all. The papers contain some facts that the investigators about the incident. I go back to the beginning and started reading word-by-word.
"Guys, come on. Get cracking! Are you sloths? Don't just read there, think! And move. We don't have all the time. Hurry, please. We're investigating, we're important." Our Leader, Alexander Lee, came in in our circle. He is sweating hard and keeps on lecturing us.
Hold on a second, why is he sweating? Why is he on a hurry? Why is he so mad? Why is his face so red? There's only one thing for sure: he can't solve the case. That's why he's reaching out for us. To help him. He is so flustered and confused. Thoughts of worry and concern about his reputation—because he can't solve the case—overlap his mind. Now he can't concentrate on what he's doing.
Stupid little society. Only choosing the Leader because of favoritism. Like, who the even heck does that? Oh, right. His beloved father.
In the middle of his sermon, I finished the whole -papers/facts/tehories idk- and play with the papers, flipping them sluggishly. Finally, I spoke. "According to these papers, the incident was a -barilan ganoyn-." Everybody stopped and began to look at me. They were already listening. Including our useless "Leader", Alex.
"Glass and wall debris, blood everywhere, bullets of guns scatter the whole place, small pieces left from a bomb; it all leads to a shooting affray. The suspect obviously broke in while using the glass walls to avoid the guards securing the entrance door. Once he breaks in, he brings out his gun and starts firing it, targeting whoever he sees alive. Now that no one can stop him, he brings out his bomb and bombs the whole place. And no one survived." I threw the papers directly on Alex's face and raised my right eyebrow fiercely. "Next time do your job properly, dumbass."
I walked out of the group and left them speechless. I button up the two last buttons of my favorite leather jacket and fix my collar. I passed by Scarlet Ace, also my co-worker, and ordered her to lead me to where the suspect is. She has this short hair—just above her shoulders, with full bangs that covers her eyebrows. She also has a big, round glasses and almost my height. Almost.
"What's happening? And where's Alex? You can't go inside the room without our Leader." noted Scarlet, fixing her glasses.
"Leader, my ass." I said as I rolled my eyes. We keep on talking on the way our destination.
"Don't tell me you dissed him again." she said in a low voice. I didn't answer. She groaned, telling me to just tell the truth.
"I just told him to do his work properly. The case was so simple to analyze. Yet, he can't even solve one. What kind of Leader is he? He pisses me off. A lot." I explained generally, not mentioning what I did exactly awhile ago. Accidentally, I stepped on a debris by the stairs, which almost caused me to trip.
"Miracle, listen. You know you're intelligence is one of a kind. No one can do it like you. Including Alex. Just understand what everybody's strengths and weakness are. And he's a Leader remember? There's nothing we can do about it." Scarlet calmly told me. Again, Leader, my ass.
"Sorry, but I respect someone who is great, super, and wise. Do you honestly think he has those qualities I look for in a leader?" Questioning her beliefs, she signaled me to a door. We have arrived the room. It's located on the second floor of the building to the left, the part of the facade that is undamaged. I nod, saying she can leave now but she tells me to don't enter because I don't have the permission of Alex or any Leader to go inside.
"Don't worry, Scarlet. I can handle this." I assure her with a weak smile, and she sighed, letting go her worries about me. With that, she left me alone in the hallway.
My decision made me kind of nervous myself. What if they won't allow me to go inside and won't listen to my excuses? What if the boastful Miracle I showed my co-workers a while ago will get embarrassed in front of the Officers, the Heads, the Leaders, or worse— Mr. Lee? What if there's a meeting inside and I interrupt? What'll happen to me? I shook my head and erased all the what-if's in my head. I know there's nothing to worry about. I can do this. I came here for a reason
I reached out for the doorknob and turned it to the right. The door opened and I went inside. The room is air-conditioned, which caused me to button up my leather jacket, preventing the freezing breeze of air to flow through it. The room was big (about four times the size of my apartment room) and everyone in our society gathered in there. Everybody was busy, so they didn't seem to notice me enter. From what I'm seeing right now, these people are just ordinary workers. There are no Officers in sight. It means the suspect is also not in this area so I walk to my right where I believe, the place where the suspect is.
I bumped into several people, mentioning my body was so close in getting numb. The people don't seem to feel the chilly air because of their sweaty body and busy minds. I passed an area where the are are fewer people (which made me walk easier), maybe because I'm so close to that room. Security is very important.
As I reached the room (inside of the room itself) where the suspect is, I first saw Mr. Lee standing beside some Officers by the left corner negotiating things through the glass wall. Then I saw Arthur De Franco, the Head of the Investigating department, staring at something. They are all looking at something. And that something is in the center of the room. Unfortunately, I can't see his face because of a logo design pasted on. I walked closely to the glass door, took a deep breath, grabbed the metal knob, and stepped inside.
"What's the commotion about?" I bravely asked in a loud voice, so every person in the room would hear. All eyes are on me now.
"Miracle," Arthur De Franco pulled me to his side and whispered to my ear, "What are you doing here? Get out!"
I smiled at him and made myself away from him. The room is a lot warmer than outside so I unbuttoned and removed my leather jacket, threw it to Arthur—who failingly caught it, but picked it up the floor—and walked in front of the suspect. They were about to stop me, but I quickly said, "Don't worry. I can do this. If you'll let me."
The men looked up to Mr. Lee and threw him a look saying, Will we really allow this girl? and Mr. Lee nodded, letting me do what I plan to do. Cracking my knuckles, bending my neck, I spoke my last words before I kill the suspect with my wisdom.
"Let's get this shit done."
