I was waiting on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue, right outside the club I work at called The Playhouse Night Club, when a man walks up to me. He was the type of man that was always in the club; tall, tanned, and obviously dripping in money.

He walks up to me with the certain confidence and swagger that told me he was one important gentleman.  Unsure of his disposition I became weary, knowing how some of these men act like animals when they know I am a flapper.

When he finally gets close enough to reach out and take my hand he lays a gentle kiss upon the back of it. "Joshua Killington, it's a pleasure to meet you darling. What's your name sweet thing?" He had a very strong southern accent with etiquette that made be flush a cherry red colour. "My name is Ruby. Ruby Lorenzo" I replied looking at him through my eyelashes. "Well Ruby, what's a fine young woman like you standing here all alone on a brisk night like this?"

Pausing for a moment I began to ponder his question. What was I doing outside of a nightclub? My dream was to become an actress but when I moved to Hollywood, money was tight. I was an unmarried young harlot making her money in a nightclub. How am I ever going to become an actress if I don't put myself out there and audition for movies? Why don't I start here?

"I just got out of work, Mr. Killington. Heading home to get a good night's rest so I may go look for movie auditions in the morning." I say tilting my chin up to show my new found confidence.

"You are looking to become an actress? Well I happen to be a movie producer. Darling I can make you a big star!" He exclaims with a huge smile on his face.

My life may be turning around for the good for once.
