As soon as the bus stopped with a squeal, I saw my reflection in the glass and my pathetic face stared right back.My short, gingery/blondish, curly hair slightly parted in the middle. My red tie flapping about wildly.
The doors opened, swarming me with a tidal wave of noise. I then noticed the driver.
If you asked me if I can describe him in three words it would be: Fat, bald and.... Well that's it really.
" Ugh. New kid" he muttered under his breath.
I was about to get on when Butch pushed me aside and got on first. Skipping the two steps and went strait for the third, like he just has to show how athletic he was.
I was just away to follow him when the driver snapped at me
" Are you Leopold Fitz?" he barked, waving his short, stubby, sausage finger at me.
" y-yes I am. Why do you need to know?" I responded. But he just chuckled and with that, the doors closed, leaving me coughing in the bus fumes as the old vehicle jolted its way down the cold street.
I was relieved. Yes I was shocked and very annoyed that I would now have to walk or ask for a ride. But I was glad I didn't have to be stuck inside a box on wheels with that kid.
So I just stood there for what seemed like forever before I decided it was better to was home for a lift.
Walking back up was feeling a lot longer than the way down. My bag felt heavier and the thought of me going to a school like this wasn't making I any easer.
Just around the corner would be my house. I kept an eye on it as I walked up. Suddenly a black, important looking car, with tinted windows came rushing around. The sudden movement of such a still neighbourhood sent a jolt of adrenaline pumping. But when I noticed that it wouldn't stop as it came straight for me, my heart was rushing even more.
I didn't know weather to run to the side or down the hill but I found myself standing there dumbstruck like an idiot. It was like I wasn't in control of my own body.
The car came to an agonising screech before stoping a few meters away from me.
At first there was just awkward silence between me and the car until I found the guts to say "hello" at whoever was in the vehicle. My strong Scottish accent echoed slightly.
The side doors swung open from the back and a woman about 20 yeRs old came jumping out. She wore a black tank top, black jeans and combat like boots. Her black hair neatly tucked back in a long ponytail.
" calm down kid!" She laughed. " we're not taking you to your execution. Lighten up a bit. " she stopped right I front of me and extended her arm. " i'm Sam. Not short for Samantha. My parents just wanted a boy." She smiled, still with her arm out.
I hesitated. It's not everyday someone randomly almost runs you over with a car and introduces herself. But I shook her hand anyway. I was about to open my mouth to introduce myself but was interrupted by another girl stumbling out of the car.
She looked different from Sam. She had a lab coat and an iPad in her hands. She wore tight and a skirt and a black shirt with sparkles on the collar. Her long brown hair was left down in a shiny wave of a hazel cascade.
" this ones called Leopold Fitz." She announced still looking at her iPad. Her crips English accent almost floated through the air. At first I wanted to smile. Another kid from Great Britain. But then her way of saying " this one" like I was some unwanted animal caught up to me. And, you know, the fact that they know my name and look alarmingly like their going to kidnap me.
" now can we please get back to the academy I left my chemistry project with Taylor and you know I don't trust her alone with deadly chemicals!" The brunet wined at Sam, still not looking at me. I then suddenly realised: The Academy was the one an only S.H.E.I.L.D academy.
" don't be rude Jemma." Said Sam. Her hands on her hips and giving 'Jemma' an annoyed look. Like when parents look at their kids when they don't say "thank you."
But the brunet just rolled her eyes and faced me.
" hello, I'm Jemma Simmons," she said with sarcastic joy. " we hope you decide to stay with us and join S.H.E.I.L.D, blah, blah, blah." She said. She then turned around and went for the car that was now turning around. " I'm going!" She exclaimed.
It was then that I noticed the huge eagle sticker on the side of the car. It had the letters S.H.E.I.L.D around it. Everyone knew what that was. "INSERT WHAT IT MEANS"
My mind was telling me to run. I don't want to go to " the academy." I need to be invisible in an invisible school with invisible people. Going to the academy would be so much different.
But I found myself following Sam to the black car anyway.
Now that I think about it... Why not go? I could be with people like me and have the right equipment to do my experiments. An all nerd school. I chuckled to myself.
No more bullies and no more boring teachers.
