For three months, they stayed like that. Everyday after school the Doctor would pick Amelia up, they'd go on a short adventure, and he'd bring her back before her aunt would ever notice she was gone.
One night Amelia- who now prefers to be called Amy- called the Doctor, asking if he could come over since her- Shannon- was out.
They both sat at opposite ends of the table, eating fish fingers and custard and ice cream, much like the first night.
"What about you, Doctor?" Amy had asked him. "Where are you from?"
The Doctor looked down at his plate and answered. "Gallifrey."
"Sounds.. Interesting. Can we go there some day?" She asked him.
"Nah, where's the fun in that for me? I don't want to go home." But that was a lie. The lonely Timelord wanted to go home so very badly.
"Doctor?" Amelia put he hand over his. "What is it your not telling me?"
He stared down for a moment before looking back at her and grinning. "That you really have to try one of these!"
He took one of the fish fingers and dipped it into the custard, holding it out to Amy.
She took it from his hand and slowly put it in her mouth, moaning when it hit her tongue.
"Mm.. This is good!" She put the whole thing in her mouth, and then had returned to her ice cream.
"Don't think this conversation is over, Doctor." She warned him.
"I know,, Amelia." He looked down at his plate sadly.
And that conversation continued, two days later he had told her what happened to his people and planet. Not much, just mostly the basics.
'There gone.' He told her. 'There was a war and their all gone.'
Five years had past, and Amy was now 12, going into the 7th grade.
She had a broken ankle from their trip to Vastkil- something that was extremely hard to explain to Shannon- and hadn't went on any adventures for about a month.
The Doctor stopped by her house on a Saturday afternoon, complaining that he was starving and she needed to make him food.
She bean to make them both a sandwich, and the front door opened and closed.
A women with short black hair and hazel eyes walked into the room, stopping quickly and looking between the Doctor and Amy in panic.
"Uhm, Aunt Shannon! Your home early!" Any put on a fake huge grin.
"Amelia, whose this?" She asked, not taking her eyes off of the stranger in front of her.
"This is- uh, my.. New phycyitrist, Dr. Smith!" Amelia introduced, remembering his fake name.
'Dr. Smith' smiled warmly and stood, shaking Shannon's hand.
"'Ello! Very nice to finally meet you. Amelia is an amazing young girl, you've done a wonderful job in raising her." His smile was slightly forced, he was still a but upset that this women had left Amy alone at 7 years old in a house with a dangerous alien. She hasn't known that, but still.
"Oh, um, thank you.. I guess, I'll leave you two, yell if you need anything." With that, she reluctantly left and went upstairs.
How would you react if you came home to see your niece alone with a man double her age?
Amy whipped the imaginary sweat off of her brow. "Well, that was a close one!"
The Doctor sighed. "Yeah, you could say that again."
He looked up at her and they both grinned. And then laughed.
They were both in diddly jiggered hysterics.
