"You're doing great," he whispered softly.
A young woman sat next to James. She had bright red orange hair. The announcements of safety was really short.
"Hi, I'm Silver," she spoke.
"I'm James and this is Juliana," James spoke.
"It's nice to meet you guys. What were you guys doing down here?"
"I was trying to find a story," I spoke. "He decided to come along."
"Did you hear about that girl," Silver asked. I was wondering if she meant me.
"Katya," I asked.
"Yeah her. She's called dangerous. Some people say she works for the rebellion. I think she's a spy from the government and is trying to get information from somewhere."
"That's interesting." I reached for inside my bag. There was an iPad and I pretended to write this stuff down. I then felt my stomach drop. I grabbed onto the seat.
"A nervous lifter," Silver asked.
"Yeah. It just doesn't set well with my stomach," I spoke. James grabbed my hand. He squeezed it to give me comfort.
"Well it's a good thing it only takes ten to twenty minutes to get up there," she spoke. James was quiet the whole time.
"That is true." She then got up and left us.
"Don't do that," James spoke.
"What, talk to people?"
"Yeah. The more you talk the more likely you can slip up your story."
"Really James?"
"I know that you can't look me in the eye for a long time. If you do that to others you'll slip."
"James you need to chill. We haven't done anything."
"Fine but try to less social."
"You are trying to be funny," I smiled.
"No I'm not." He spoke. I was quiet the rest of the way. James was still holding my hand. He had fallen asleep. I looked out the window to see a beautiful town. How could anyone not want to be down here? I almost cried except I couldn't. I had to play the part. I felt my body jerk and something dinged. James woke up and removed his hand quicker than you could pickles. Everyone began to get up and get there stuff. James got up and I followed his lead. We grabbed our stuff and headed out. We passed security. It became very smooth. We got to the doors before someone yelled something.
"Stop in the name of the law," they shouted.
"Wait," James spoke. I felt compelled to turned around and saw a young man walking to us. He was smiling and wasn't running.
"James it's so nice to see you again." He spoke when he was closer. James gave him a hug. They were friends.
"It's nice to see you to David." David turned to me and smiled.
"And who is this?" He took my hand and kissed like a proper gentleman.
"We'll talk about that later but first we need to go," James spoke.
"Ah yes. Right this way." We followed him out to a parking lot full of levitated cars. What was this? The buildings surrounding were tall and just glass basically. We got to this black levitated car. James put the stuff in the trunk and got in the passenger side. David got in the driver's side. I got in the back. It was very hard to rock.
"Has she ever been in one of these," David asked.
"No," we both said at the same time.
"Well you're in for a ride." I then felt like we were lifting. We were flying the car. I looked outside and could see the buildings just pass by. James looked back and smiled.
"Hey land somewhere. Let her drive," James spoke.
"Really. You sure."
"Yeah. She needs to know how and it's easy."
"For us probably not for her."
"Fine." They were trying to whisper. It didn't really work that well.
"I hope you know that I can hear you both," I smiled.
"Well then next time."
"Alright," I spoke. All my fears were gone. I couldn't believe everything I saw. People were right when they said it was beautiful in the Skys.
David pulled by this one house. It was larger than any house that I have ever seen. It was basically a tinted glass.
"Welcome home James," David spoke.
"Thanks, wish us luck." James smiled. When he stopped James and I got out of the car and grabbed our stuff. David took off. James, I noticed, was tense. He took out a key and walked to the large door in front of us. He put his key into the door and unlocked the door. We took a couple steps into the building. I noticed I could see almost everything outside. It was so bright. The inside was beautifully designed.
"Who's there," a voice called out. It sounded older but like James' voice. A man tall came walking out of the room trying to figure out who was in his house. James just stood there. The man looked shocked to see us.
"James," he smiled.
"Hey dad," James spoke. I smiled at this moment. I was happy for both off them. The dad then looked at me and frowned. He walked toward me. James didn't do anything so I did nothing. I looked straight in the man's eyes just like James had taught me. I stood there straight, no words, like a soldier about to get yelled at. The man was now two feet in front of me. He raised a hand about to hit me.
"You hoar," he spoke. I kept my eyes locked on his. Before he could hit me James had stopped him. James was looking straight into his dad's face and I could see the face was full of anger.
"This is Katya no hoar. And if you call her that again I swear I will end you and you know that I can. She wants to help us."
"You say she wants to help but what does her really want James?"
"We will talk about this later but for right now she is my guest," James straightened. His father jerked his hand away.
"Fine. Until I can prove otherwise." His father then left us. James turned to me.
"I'm sorry about that. He just doesn't trust most young females," James apologized.
"Don't apologize. I could understand if you had this much money."
"Here I'll show you to your room."
"You'll have the room next to me for now." I followed James up the stairs and to a hallway. Surprisingly the room was very simple and plain. I loved it that way though.
"We can have dinner in a bit," James smiled.
"Alright." I noticed there was a closet with a mirror on it just like James room in that little house. I put the suitcase in front of the bed and began to look around the room. I opened the closet to basically another room. I found a remote in the nightstand next to the bed.
"What are you doing," James asked. I jumped.
"Good question. Looking around," I smiled. He just smiled at me.
"I am sorry about my Father," he spoke.
"It's alright I've heard worse things than that," I smiled.
"Let me show you around." I followed James around his large house. There was a couple work rooms and libraries. By the time we were done I was hungry so we went to the kitchen. His father was in there drinking a glass of water.
"Girl can you cook," he asked. James gave him a glare.
"Yes I can."
"Do you mind to cook for us? Kelsi is coming over tonight," he spoke. He still had an evil look in him. He was up to something and I had to watch out.
"Let her get some rest. Pick something up," James defended. He knew what his father going to do.
"I can do it," I spoke. James shot a look at me. I just nodded my head.
"Thank you," the father nodded. He then left the room. James waited for a two minutes.
"Are you crazy?!"
"Yes I am," I spoke. He was pacing around.
"My father wants a fight and he will win."
"Let him have his fight. The only one he is going to hurt is himself," I spoke when I probably knew I was going to hurt myself in the process.
"Katya don't do it," James begged.
"Where's your food and spices and pans?" James just threw his hands in the air.
"You are so stubborn," he smiled.
"I know but so are you and I would guess he is too." James nodded his head.
"What do you need?" I smiled. In the next thirty minutes. James and I had made the perfect meal of Spaghetti with Anchovy Carbonara. Is was laid out on the table ready to go. James smiled when the bell rang.
"Perfect timing," he smiled.
"Don't worry if. I can handle this."
"I know you can but I hope it'll be alright."
"It's time." James father walked in with his girlfriend Kelsi. She smiled at us.
"Is she helping us out too," I asked.
"With the history thing yes," James spoke. We sat down and began to eat. Kelsi seemed to enjoy the food very much. The father did but he was thinking.
"So Katya how did you learn how to cook?"
"My father," I spoke.
"I bet he was all for money too," his father spoke. Kelsi slammed her fork down and looked at him.
"Robert," she spoke. I just looked at him. This was what I was waiting for.
"Sir with all due respect I'm not here for the money. About a week ago I made the decision to present an essay about the United States' history without your son's consent. I had just met him the day before and had still written it. He told me what I was writing about. Just to let you know that your son didn't even tell me who he really was until I got in trouble with things." His father looked at me then looked at James.
"Where is your family now," Robert asked. James grabbed my hand under the table which startled me.
"Sir I will say this that I have sacrificed a lot just to come and help."
"Where are you really from?"
"The Dirts," I spoke.
"So you are a little gold digger probably just like your parents," his cruel smile showed.
"Robert," Kelsi spoke. I stood up and stared at him in the eye.
"My parents are dead because I believed that I could help you and your son change America. But since it looks like you think that I am some low life bitch and unequal to do things, I might as well leave. There is no need to help a person who doesn't even want help from the people like the thirteen colonies did." I then left the room and into the kitchen. I began to cry. There was so much pain in my heart. I didn't dare go back out there. James then came in and I turned so he wouldn't see me crying. He came to where I was and just pulled me into his arms gently. He held me so tight.
"Katya that was first time I have ever seen my dad put in place. He so deserves it," he softly spoke. He then let go and stepped back. I wiped the tear that had fell from my eye. Robert and Kelsi walked through the door. Kelsi was smiling and Robert didn't looked pleased.
"Girl it is very unwise to talk so disrespectful to the master of this house. But it seems to me that his son has a liking for you so you may stay." Kelsi nudged him for him to say something else.
"I am very sorry for what I have said to you that may have hurt you in any way," he spoke then went into the other room. Kelsi stayed in here.
"You are very brave to stand up to him and help us. I am sure you will help us greatly with what I just saw."
"Thank you," I bowed my head.
"Did you say you were from the Dirts?"
"Yes, mam, I did."
"You don't look or act like you are from there at all."
"He taught a lot of things," I spoke pointing to James.
"How long did you say from your presentation to now."
"One week," I spoke. She then smiled at me.
"You might as well sit. I'm just going to ask you a couple questions so then we can you a spot in our work and for the Hard Core cooperation."
"I figured she can be on the retrieving team with me," James spoke. Kelsi looked at James and smiled.
"This is also to see what she can do for Hard core. That's where all the colonies are working so then we can talk about things," she spoke.
"Okay. Should we go somewhere it's actually comfortable," James asked.
"Alright. But I will need to talk to her alone."
"Just go James. I'm fine to stay here," I spoke looking at James. He looked at me nodded then left me to Kelsi. I sat down on one of the stools across Kelsi.
"Thank you," she spoke. "How old are you?"
"16."
"Okay."
"Yeah."
"How are you at school?"
"I'm a straight A student. I am a writer and I have taken all my years of fighting and learning how to use a weapon. I never thought I would actually need it though."
"Well I'm glad you're fit to do things. Why did you choose to be part of the Colonies?"
"I want the truth. I hate being lied to." Kelsi smiled. She was very nice with everything.
"You don't have to answer this question but I'd like for you to, how are you doing with such a sudden change in your life? Like with your father and becoming a criminal basically."
"I honestly have no idea. I'm excited at points but then I'm scared for my life. I loved both my parents and I miss them. I can't give a straight yes I feel fine or a no I'm unstable."
"You are probably the first person to answer that really honest," she smiled. "Do you like James?"
"I have mixed feelings about it," I spoke.
"What do you mean?"
"Yes I like him but I am really here to help and if you guys are putting me on the team to retrieve the Documents then I don't want a relationship to get in the way but I can't promise that it won't happen."
"I was just wondering. I'm very pleased with everything you have said. Robert doesn't think before he does something and that's why I'm here. I just don't know why he would snap on you most of all. I will report back to him. You look like a runner, yes?"
"I can be."
"I'm going to write down an address and it's about five miles from here. Plug into a phone and it will guide you," she spoke.
"Thank you," I spoke.
"Have a good night."
"You too," I nodded.
"Oh whatever you cooked was the best food I have ever had," she smiled.
"Thank you." I then walked out of the kitchen and saw James sitting on the floor by the door.
"Did you hear anything," I asked.
"I just got here but we should probably hit the hay," He smiled.
"You're probably right." James and I walked up stairs to our rooms. We said our farewells and I walked into my room. Once I shut the door I leaned against the door let out of breath. I have accomplished something today but now I had to figure out what was next. The first thing I decide to do was unpack everything. I found a bathroom in my room. There was a door in the walk in closet that lead to the bathroom. I found everything. Everything that Benjamin picked out for me. I found some workout clothes and pjs. They were all brand new. I had feminine necessities as well. I then remembered what Benjamin wanted me to do. I picked up the phone that was on the bed. I began to call him.
Hello, Benjamin answered.
"Hey, everything is fine. We are safe. James had called one of his friends to pick us up."
Well that's good. How did Robert react to seeing you?
"Not well." I was figuring out how to work the room. A TV showed up on the mirror. It was showing my parents restaurant and there was a sketch of what I looked like. It looked nothing like me. The restaurant was black from the fire and there was glass in the street that shined in the sun.
Are you okay?
"Better now that we fixed the issue. Do you know why he would be so mean?"
It may be because you look so much like James mother. She looked almost exactly like you except the really curly hair.
"It will become tame soon enough," I spoke.
Don't tame it. That hair disguises you.
"Alright sir," I smiled. I then heard him hang up. I noticed what time it was. I got on some shorts and a tank top. I got into the bed with the TV on. I fell asleep.
My parents were in the restaurant and I was serving food. Daniel was there too. A man in the military man walked in holding a gun. Then my parents and Daniel were on their knees about to kill them. The soldier then looked at me.
"You did this Katya," he whispered.
"No," I spoke. I was then they were in front of me and I was holding the gun. I had tears down my face. I couldn't control my hands. My finger pulled the trigger killing my father. I then I came to my mother who was sobbing with me. I pulled the trigger. I then came to Daniel or James. He didn't move. I couldn't pull the trigger but I felt myself slowly start to pull it. Before I could watch it I woke up.
I woke up sitting up drenched in sweat. I was still dreaming about this. I looked at the clock. It was four am. I decided to take Kelsi's advice and go for a run. I got on my running clothes and got the Benjamin gave me. I found some head phones. I snuck out of my room and downstairs. I came to the kitchen and saw a little piece of paper there with an address. I plugged it into the phone, set some music, and left the mansion. I ran, thinking about everything. Everything passed by me. I ran jumping and doing flips over things. My biggest obstacle was a ten foot fence with some barbed wire on top. I climbed it and jumped rolling on the ground. I went through a fake green field. There were trees everywhere. I finally came to a spot out of breath and sweaty. It was an opening to the Dirts. You could see the hustle and bustle that was going on. I sat there amazed. I looked at my clock. It was four thirty. If I ran back now I could make before five. But I saw the beauty in the town that I once knew. I stood there admiring it. I snapped back to where I was and ran back to the mansion. I had to. I got there and still no one was up. I took a shower and got ready in a way. When I got out and opened my door James was standing there waiting for something.
"Oh hey, um," James was trying to say something.
"What?"
"Do you want to see the first clue?"
"Yes of course." I smiled. I followed James down stairs to a library. He pulled one of the books and it opened the shelf to a secret room. There was pieces of paper lines into lines. They were letters from someone. They were signed by a guy named George Ross from Pennsylvania. For some reason the seemed easy to read but even harder.
"What do you think?"
"These are the clues."
"Yes. But there are no large letters wrong spelling. Nothing."
"Well I don't know what that means but there could be stuff from the constitution or even the Declaration of Independence."
"Maybe, or some kind of documents," James smiled. We were figuring it out. They have never tried that. Two hours passed and we had figured out which words were needed. It was the preamble, the start of the constitution.
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty..."
There was something wrong. We went through all the letters and couldn't find anything. I was confused and hungry. James had left and brought back two sandwiches and some drinks. We sat on the floor trying to figure this stuff out.
"I don't know what we are going to do. I can't find anything," James spoke.
"It seems that we have to finish it. Secure the Blessings of Liberty from someone, from who though."
"I don't know," James stood up and began to pace around. I sat there looking at the letters. I've seen the name George Ross before. I couldn't remember where and who that was. Just then Robert walked in looking at us confused.
"What are you guys doing," he asked.
"Figuring out this," James spoke.
"We have, I think, four thirds of it actually done," I confirmed. Robert look at us.
"Really, how?"
"James told me that there were no coding in it but you have to look deeper. I figured it was from one of the documents actually written. The person is testing our knowledge with the U.S. history," I spoke.
"So, what is the last key," Robert asked.
"A name of some sort. Someone in power or the first person that was in the emperor's seat when a New America started," James answered. We were really trying to figure out by putting our heads together.
"Well I hope you know it's like almost dinner time," Robert spoke.
"Really," I asked. We had been in the room all day.
"Well then," James spoke. I stood and stretched. Robert had left us then.
"It looks like we already ate dinner. You want to go do something like train? We have a gym somewhere."
"Sounds great," I smiled. I needed something for a little bit to give my mind a break. James and I went to the gym. It was a huge gymnasium. There were things to practice on flips, archery or weaponry, and an obstacle course. I was amazed that everything could fit. James walked over to a mat. He had taken his shoes off and I followed his lead.
"You ready," he asked. I nodded. Before I could react he moved quickly and I found myself on the ground. I didn't even know what he did. I hurt for a second and I got back up.
"Are you sure you're ready," James asked. I nodded. This time I watched James move towards me. He moved so swiftly. I saw his hand move towards my neck. I dodged his hand and turned back and kicked him in the back. He fell on the ground. He was smiling at me. I stood above him and helped him up but he pulled me down. We were both cracking up laughing.
"So much for training," He smiled.
"That's okay," I spoke. I got back up and just stood there.
"We have some bows if you want to try them," James spoke. There was a burst of excitement.
"I would love to," I smiled. James showed me where the bows were. I grabbed one of re-curve bows. I know how to shoot all kind of bows and guns. James grabbed a compound. The only time I used a compound was a longer distance targets. We have got in front of the targets. The target was probably a fifteen paces away from us. I was about to put an arrow onto the bow and shout it until I heard someone yell. My instincts kicked in and I turned while pulling back an arrow. I let the arrow slip out of my hands. I noticed it was someone I didn't really know. A female. She was tall and had dark red hair. I saw that the arrow had barely missed and hit the wall by her.
"Holly crap Katya," James yelled.
"I'm sorry. People can't just yell when someone is shooting. Just be glad I know what I'm doing," I spoke. The girl kept walking towards us. She had a smile on her face. It seemed to be someone that James knew and cared about.
"Hi James," She spoke.
