I walked around the diner cleaning the tables. Its late at night. You noticed a guy sitting down by himself and a carseat next to him. I went to him.
"Hi I'm Stephanie I'll be taking your order" I said as I took out my notepad "What would you like"
"Just a cup of coffee" He said low
"You sure I'm not trying to assume anything but you look hungry" You said
"I don't have any more money but $3" He said
"Are you okay....." I asked
"Its Craig and Yeah its just......No I don't want to burden you with my problems" He said "Could I just get my coffee"
"Sure" I see the carseat "Is that your son"
"Yeah His name is Aayden" He said
"He's such an adorable baby Let me go get your coffee" I walked to the kitchen and grabbed coffee pot and a cup.
I went back to the table and served him his coffee.
"Your name is Stephanie right" He asked
"Yes" I turned to him
"You are very sweet" He said
"Thank you" I sat down next to him.
We actually talked and I learned alittle about him. Then I went to the bar and started counting my tips. $47. I noticed it was 11:30. My boss Freddie came from the back. He went to Craig and told him that he has to leave. I watched Craig leave with his son still in the carseat. As you finished cleaning up it started crying outside. I was ready to leave. I grabbed my umbrella and first went to check my check. Then I started walking down the street to my apartment. You noticed a black figure sitting against a building. As I got closer I noticed it was Craig.
"Craig isn't it" You said
He looked up at me "Hi" He said low
"You should really go home before your son gets sick" I said
He looked at me with sad eyes. My instinct kicked in.
"I wish we could but I couldn't pay rent so I got kicked out" He said
"Oh well You can't just stay out in the cold with a baby here Come with me" I said
"Where are we going"
"My apartment"
"No I can't do that"
"It's better then being in the cold rain come on" I put my hand out
He grabbed my hand and he had Aayden. We walked down the block to my apartment. I got in my 5 years old daughter Katherine ran to me.
"Mommy you home" She hugged my legs
"Yeah Aren't you suppose to be in bed
"Maybe"
"Where Buddy at" I said
I see Tiffany my sitter/my cousin come to the door with my 2 years old son Khalil asleep in her arms.
"He finally got to sleep" Tiffany said
"Hey buddy" I took him out of Tiffany's arms
"Its $50" Tiffany said
I got the money for Tiffany. She left. I saw Craig sitting down on the couch rocking Aayden in his arms. It was the most adorable thing. I went and took my two kids to bed. I went back to the living room.
"Stephanie those are your kids" Craig asked
"Yeah Katerine and Khalil" I said
"Why you let me come stay here" He looked at me
"Because I'm not gonna let anyone with a baby be left in the streets I would do it for anyone"
"Thank you"
"You want change of clothes for the both of you I have some old baby clothes and some basketball short and t-shirts"
"Sure thank you" He said
I got those things for him and gave it to him. I showed him the guest room. I let him do what he need to do then I went to my room. I just feel good I help someone in need. I went to sleep
