I pace up and down my room, beads of sweat drip down my back. I am biting my nails down to their beds, I am not supposed to remember.
I play the dream back over in my head, it is the only way that I can rationalize things.
I hear a tap on my bedroom window and another tap. Followed by another. I see small stones flying past and I look out the window. Seriously.
Standing, more swaying is Isobel. Her shoes hanging off her right arm and her hair stuck to neck from sweat. I push the window up, then duck. Another stone flies in and knocks my wardrobe.
"Sorry!", her voice almost a yell, makes the house across the street light's turn on.
I gesture her to come up and she obeys by climbing the big oak tree by my window.
She falls onto the cold floor boards, her mouth giggling into a smile. I stand over her and realize that she might never be the same again, the thought scares me. She rolls over, and grabs a pillow from my bed. She then just lays on our bedroom floor, asleep.
The room is quiet again, my recollection of my test drips through my body.
I walk over to my pile of school textbooks, to the one that says, The Provinces.I flick through the book, running my hands over the pages.
I stumble over the first chapter, Aptness. I see a picture of their leader, Janette Roberts. Her blond hair, pulled back into a tight bun. Drawing back her wrinkles. I read the summary of Aptness, their endless propaganda. Symbolizing their importance, their wisdom and knowledge. But must of all their fairness. With the Aptness or Northern Province, responsible for , doctors, lawyers, politicians and scientists. If you ever met one, they usually have big egos and are brutally honest. But it is considered a great honour, if your child is tested for Aptness.
Audacious, the people who attacked our train. I recall their leader on the train, Ethan Conrad, he is extremely tall and his presence commanding. I remember his gaze on Regan and I, his eyes would sum up your emotions instantly. I read their goals as a Province, the training to become a warrior and their devotion to Aptness. Even though they won't admit it, Aptness basically owns Audacious. Now that there is war, the other Provinces have no hope.
Then, I remember Amergence, dubbed the Mining Province. No one ever hears or talks about Amergence, they do not do Television interviews and they never cause trouble. Due to them located in the East, most people discount them, but my head always tells me not to. I see an old photo of their leader, Julia Marshall, she has olive skin and thick brown hair running down her shoulder's. My sister always makes fun them, covered in soot, but it is no difference to us covered in dirt.
Covered in dirt is us the Agribusiness Province, we produce all the food for the all of the four Provinces. I don't know how I would feel, if lived her for the rest of my life. A failure or maybe unwanted. The truth I feel like I'll never leave, everyone says that Isobel is destined for the North. No one ever talks about me.
