"Paris hurry up and get in bed! Moms coming!" Pryde semi-yells knowing that they are already suppose to be in bed, but they stayed up to watch The Proud Family movie.
"One more minute Pry please" Parissa beggs giving her puppy eyes, hoping she'll win him over like she does with everyone else.
"Paris we can't, we have school tomorrow, you know mama gonna be mad if she comes and sees we still up" Pryde explains to his little sister hoping she'll listen.
Parissa sighs as she stands from her criss cross position on the floor to turn off her Elmo tv, then she makes her way over to her bed grabbing her Elmo stuffed bear as her brother tucks her in.
"Good night Paris" Pryde says kissing her forehead as she pouts turning the opposite way.
Pryde sighs as he stands up off her bed and make his way to her door, turning on her Elmo night light before he leaves to go to his own room.
When he's about to close the door to his room he hears his mother Gloria on the phone the only part he hears of the conversation is "I'm in".
In what? Pryde thinks to himself as he hears his mom making her way towards the hallway seconds after the phone call ends. Pryde closes his door just in time to not get caught.
As Parissa slowly begins to fall asleep she hears her bedroom door open and close. Assuming its Pryde she keeps her eyes close but she realize it couldn't be Pryde when she smells her mother's favorite perfume. She cracks her eyes open enough to see her mother gently sit on her bed but not enough for her mom to notice her.
Gloria takes a second to look at her beautiful daughter that is sleeping peacefully, before she places a loving but gentle kiss on Parissa forehead before she speaks.
"Be a good girl and always listen to your brother" Gloria says lowly as she kisses Parissa on the forehead again, before tucking a strand of Parissa's curly dark brown hair behind her ear. Parissa could tell by her mother's voice without looking that she's been crying. Parissa wants so badly to ask her what's wrong, but she's suppose to be already sleep so she just lies there.
Parissa watches her mom stand up but stops when she sees the picture of their family at the fair a year ago.
Gloria runs her finger across her necklace.
"God I miss him so much" Parissa hears Gloria say lowly to herself as she runs her lime green manicure fingers across the picture as a few tears escape her hazel eyes.
Parissa suddenly wishes she can comfort her mother but doesn't. Seconds later Parissa hears Gloria place the frame back on the nightstand and leave.
Parissa eyes pop completely open and she sits up in her bed reaching over and grabbing the frame and the necklace her parents gave her a day after she was born to put it on. The necklace was special because it forms the shape of a heart when all of the 5 pieces are put together, the problem was the bottom piece of the heart was always missing.
Harold and Gloria necklaces forms the top left and right sides of the heart, and Pryde and Parissa necklaces forms the left and right middle parts, but the bottom part of the necklace was always missing so the heart was never a complete heart.
"I miss you dad...we all do" Parissa says looking at the frame before kissing it then her necklace before putting the frame back on her nightstand and laying back down to sleep.
"Aw where is it" Pryde says to himself as he tippy toes around his messy room searching for the necklace Gloria gave him a day after he was born, just like the one Parissa has but it's the middle left side of the heart.
