Connor's POV
"I think I arrived at Grandma's... Snow's house?" Connor said questionably. I was in Australia a mysterious country where I don't know anything.
"It's Grandma Raine, Connor. You are staying with your Grandma for three months and you can't get her name right?" Connor's father complained
"Well, I'm sorry for not knowing my grandma's name. You did keep a secret that my slowing dying grandma is actually still alive. This is basically getting rid of me." I'm pretty angry at the moment. I can basically be Anger from Inside Out. (A/N Great movie, I totally recommend. If you have watched it, watch it again.)
My dad has been keeping the secret of how his mother died before my oldest brother was born. But in reality she never died. He was just ashamed of her that he didn't even bother to stay in contact with his mom, or even tell his kids the truth. He told us the truth when he heard that his mother has stomach cancer. The doctors are not sure when she will pass but they suspect it can be in 3 months. My parents thought it will be a great idea to send their 20 year old son to live in a mysterious country with someone he barely knows. Smart move parents.
I end the phone call as soon as my dad tries to speak. I don't want to hear another word from his lying mouth.
Well Connor, you may be accidentally knocking on an axe murderer's door but it's worth trying. I knock on the door three times feeling anxious. I hear loud barking that shakes up my eardrums, drilling that scratches my ears, and apparently really loud EDM music that shakes the house. I'm hoping that this is Grandma Raine's house because if not that would be very embarrassing. "I'm coming! I just need to keep Donut in his cage." I hear a elderly lady voice that's apparently very loud. The dog may be vicious if he has to stay in a cage. I'm literally shaking because what if this lady is crazy? She could drill my heart out of my chest, or get her vicious dog to bite my soul. Why am I thinking so much? Well, it's probably because you're very nervous and a grumpy cat.
"Hello, Connor! It's very nice to meet you. Come in! I have donuts and peppermint mocha lattes set on the table for you." Grandma Raine cheerfully bursts out. I see a old lady with white hair wearing many colors that burn my eyes. She's currently holding a large green drill that scares me. My father says she has stomach cancer but my mind says otherwise. Also, why does she have peppermint mocha lattes in this 107 degrees weather?!
"Hi, I'm Connor. You're Grandma Raine?" I questioned.
"Yes, I am. You look nothing like your father but you look better than that doof," she replies with annoyance.
I walk inside the house seeing many pastel colors splattered on every wall. The house is cluttered with random pieces of clothing and colorful paper. The furniture has colors of cotton candy blue, pink, or yellow. There was no black or brown anywhere. This place is totally not my aesthetic. Many frames of countries and nature were framed crookley at random places on the walls. I felt like I was walking in a literal rainbow. Did a unicorn have diarrhea everywhere?
"Connor, sit down. I'm sorry for not being prepared. It was so sudden that you were coming. But, I hope you don't mind the mess. You're father was the messiest out of all the 4 children I had. So, tell me a bit about yourself. This is the first time I have met you so I want to know everything about you." She eagerly sat on the edge her seat waiting for my response. Grandma Raine actually looks interested.
"Well, my full name is Connor Joel Franta. I'm 20 years old currently studying in the arts for my major. Also..." I suddenly got cut off by the colorful woman.
"That stuff is so boring. Tell me your favorite animal, color, and that fun stuff that's actually interesting." This woman was very eager which I was surprised by.
"Well, my favorite color is black. My favorite animal is a cat because they are the best things on four legs. I really, really, really love coffee more than most people. I also ate a bagel before I came here." I didn't know what I was saying. I think this lady liked random so I was going to give her that.
"What kind of bagel? Also, I hope you know I will not allow black around the house besides coffee." She smiled looking very interested in me. I don't know why she was though.
"It was blueberry I think. Can I go put my stuff away? Sorry for being rude for going out of our conversation." I feel bad for just leaving the conversation. I could tell she wanted to know more.
"Follow me. You'll have the basement because all my bedrooms are going to be occupied." I follow Grandma Raine to a neon green room where there is a twin size bed by the right side of the corner of the room. There are a lot of board games and paints scattered around the room. I see random Santa statues scattered out. It's only June through. This women must love Christmas every year especially with the peppermint lattes.
"Are you having company over?" I ask politely. I'm very curious of this woman. I actually am looking forward to this journey here.
"Yep. I actually shelter homeless teens. They usually come back here at nine, so don't worry about them." She sounded proud of what she was doing. To be honest, I don't know why my dad sent me here if she looks healthy and is moving around much more than me. Grandma Raine seems like a fantastic woman so I didn't understand why my dad didn't want anything to do with her.
After I was done setting up my sleeping place, I hear very loud stomping and scratchy EDM music from the upper floor. I dash upstairs to spot that my grandma is wildly dancing with a large chow chow while standing up on the table. I still can't believe that this woman is sick but is still able to dance like a teenager. (A/N A chow chow is basically a big fluffy dog that looks a like a lion bear.)
"Connor, Join me!" She yells in excitement.
"Don't you have cancer though? Something might happen. Get down!" I am worried that she may get hurt. But, I am more worried that a 78 year old lady can have more fun than me.
"Stop being such a buzzkill! We have 20 minutes till we stop by my friend's house. I may be sick but I am going to live my life to the fullest. Now get on the table and dance!" Grandma exclaimed loudly.
I climbed up onto the table and did very random dance moves while my grandma shuffled on the large table. The Harlem Shake suddenly came on and my grandma started shaking everywhere. I could've told her that she could fall off, but it's much better if I join her.
BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! "We have to go my friend's house now. Hurry! He is an a impatient boy." Grandma Raine sounds like an impatient five year old which makes me burst out laughing. "What's so funny?", she questions.
"It's just that you sound like your five, hahaha!" I laughed while talking.
"Stop laughing and follow me." She demanded than pulled me by the ear. When we got out of the house, she started jogging as fast as she could. To be honest, it was very hard to keep up with someone who is much more fit than me surprisingly.
We jogged for about four blocks and she stopped in front of a cute blue pastel house. There are beautiful yellow roses and tulips surrounding the house with a red brick path leading to the enchanting feeling house.
Grandma Raine excitingly runs to the door ringing the bell multiple times like a small child. "I'm coming! Wait, it's Raine right? She is the only one to ring multiple times." The voice behind the brown door has a accent that sounds sweet and soft.
"No Troye, it's Patrick," she said sarcastically, "Now open the door. I have a special guest for you." The door swings open and I see a pretty cute boy with black shades and a cane.
My grandma must have really good connections.
AUTHORS NOTE:
Hello! How do you feel about this story? I know it's only chapter one but I have a feeling this story will get better.
SOMETHING TO KNOW:
Grandma Raine moved to Australia before Connor's first brother was born because her husband had passed before that. She wanted to travel somewhere where she would be more accepted and feel more comfortable because her children were not comfortable with how "out there" their mother was. I can include a full chapter basically about her. If you want one, comment. :3
