Taylor woke up to find her cellphone ringing non-stop.
She looked out her window pane. It was still dark outside. She took her glasses and looked at the clock.
5:00am!
Who would call in a time like this?!One look at the caller i.d, her hopes were confirmed. It was Karlie.
Holding the phone to her chest she layed back in bed, waiting for the call to end.
For the nth ring, knowing Karlie wouldn't give up, she finally anwered the phone smiling.
"Ali! I have been calling for hours! Well, not literally." Karlie shouted at the other end humor etched in her voice.
Taylor bit her cheeks to refrain herself from laughing out loud, so she was shaking with silent laughter. She remained silent.
"Ali, I know you're there, I can literally hear you breathing. You can't fool me baby." Karlie added sweetly on the end, her voice husky, then broke out laughing.
Taylor's heart fluttered frantically at the endearment. She laughed along with Karlie giving up her little game.
+ I like the way you sound in the morning, we're on the phone and without a word..+
The lyrics just formed from the back of Taylor's mind making her blush.
"You are joking! I wasn't even breathing, I was holding it so well!" sleep was now out of her system. She was now wide awake.
"Yes I did! I swear you were even shaking with laughter." Karlie smiled so hard it hurt her cheeks.
"Okay, now I know you can read minds. Ha-ha." Taylor said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
"Haha, you just rolled your eyes, didn't you?!"
"You are insanely annoying!" Taylor said it in a sweet way.
"Is that a compliment? I guess I'll take that as a compliment. Thank you." Karlie says playfully.
Both girls laughed on either end.
"What on Earth came to your mind to call me in this early hour? I never wake up this early."
"I take it you're not a morning person."
"Obviously!" Taylor snorted.
"Good. Me too. I guess... I just got excited." Karlie admitted blushing at the realization.
"Hmm. I'd like to know who got you excited." Taylor says teasing.
"Oh shut up!" They burst out laughing.
Taylor heared footsteps and her laugh falters. She looked at her clock. It was now 5:30am.
We have been talking for 30 minutes!? Mom will be knocking any minute now...
"Eli, I guess we'll see each other soon. I really have to go now." Taylor pleading in a very low voice.
"Oh-kay, but wait... why are you whispering?"
"Honey, time to wake up or-" Andrea started as she knocked thrice.
"I'm already up mom!" Taylor cut her off. "Just a sec!"
Realization hit Karlie, she couldn't help laughing at Taylor's immediate answer.
"Oh! Figures. You better get up now, I guess." Karlie said still laughing.
"I'll deal with you later missy. Gotta go, bye!" Taylor said turning off the phone and gave out a deep sigh.
"Honey, is something wrong? You never wake up this early. Are you sick? Open the door young lady." Andrea said worry etching her voice.
Taylor quickly jumped out in bed as she realized Andrea was waiting outside her door completely fazed by her daughter.
What to do, what to do... Aha!
Taylor grabbed her guitar and sat on her bed, held her pen and her music sheets as her mother burst the door open.
Taylor tried to look like she was working on a song. Hoping si bad she could pull it off.
Taylor looked up at Andrea who has now remained calm as she slowly took in the situation. Worry wiped clean from her face and was quickly replaced with a warm smile.
"Oh. That explains why you're up so early. I'm sorry for overreacting. I thought something was wrong."
"I'm fine mom. I'm sorry I worried you. I was just working on something." Taylor gave back a smile.
Andrea went near and took a peek at Taylor's work.
Thankfully Taylor had flipped the music sheet into something she was already working on. It was a song titled "A Place in this World."
"Wow honey. That looks good. I'm so proud of you." Andrea said with so much love her voice cracked.
"Thanks mom. But it's not finished yet."
Inspired, she decided to finish the song with one last stanza to the chorus, a lyric that has been playing in her mind last night.
Oh I'm just a girl, Trying to find a place in this world.
"There. Now it's done." Taylor smiled up to her mother happy that she got away with a little phone call in the morning.
As Scott pulled up the driveway Taylor had never felt so excited to go to school.
Not since she met Karlie. Everything in her life now seems to have meaning, finally having color.
Everything has changed.
At that realization, Taylor never thought it would make her feel so alive.
