As the sun finally made its way into the sky I was finally able to let out a sigh of relief. Days here were actually quite fun, I attended their version of schooling and then listened to the stories of how life used to be here.
The ghosts who were trapped here made life bearable and the food they cooked was divine, even if they themselves couldn't eat it.
Today I was sitting in on a meeting of the elders, the ghosts who knew the most about the scrolls and prophecies. They would banter back and forth, never truly agreeing on anything but not disagreeing on anything either. It seemed like a very pointless way to go about a meeting or the same as any other meeting I had heard about.
The group was an odd mix, although called the elders the oldest was grey haired and scarred and the youngest only a few years older than what I would have been had I not been turned. One of the younger people was in charge causing me to wonder what the ranking order was and how it came to be. Lower ranks were forced to stand further towards the back, almost in the shadows while the higher ups, myself included, sat at the table basked in light from the fire.
They had a map on the table and were trying to decide which area was the most defensible and which areas they would have no hope of keeping if it came to a full on battle. These people were so willing to fight a battle they may not come back from and it frightened me to see just how desperate they were to escape. I knew that many of the people here were dead already but due to the nature of this place they could be hurt while on this land until the curse upon them was broken. It fueled my anger at the people who did this to innocent people, I didn't understand how anyone could be so evil as to do this.
"The key stone to the spell is located here," A man pointed out. "It needs to be destroyed to get rid of the spell on our people.
I was confused, it was in a position that I could easily get to without trying. An area which was hard to defend and in the open. They must have seen it in my face.
"You have to be dead to enter this area of land but you have to be alive to touch the stone." Someone explained from the other side of the table.
"I am dead," I said confused.
"Yes, but to touch the stone and destroy it, you need to reverse your vampirism and become human once more."
"I can become human again?" I could age, live my life as a normal person without worrying about craving blood or the fatigue caused by the sun.
"Yes, we hope. It has never been tested as no vampire here has ever wanted to be cured but we have a manuscript from the time of the original vampires which explains a potion which can cure vampirism."
"If it will help you gain freedom i guess it is worth a shot." I said nervously. It seemed terrifying to me if it hasn't been tested yet but I couldn't help but feel like I had to save these people.
