When I wake up this morning, I hear people practically yelling at each other. I get out of bed and change into a blue t-shirt and put on some white cargo shorts. I walk down the stairs quietly to where the noise is coming from. It's coming from the kitchen.
The door to the kitchen is closed. So I put my ear up to the door and listen.
"Mom! You can't do this to him! He doesn't deserve to die! He's only 15!" I hear Lilly say from behind the door.
"We can't save him! The doctors said he only has 2 months to live and we can't afford the treatment. It has spread to his bones. It's absolutely hopeless!" I hear Mom say and start crying.
"You can't just give up! If we can't get enough money then.... Then I'll make it the best 2 months he's ever lived!" Lilly says, I can hear her voice start to tremble.
"Honey, the doctors said the treatment would be hopeless," Mom says.
I open the door and walk into the kitchen.
"Lilly, listen to mom. She and the doctors are right, I'm hopeless. So don't bother even trying. My life isn't worth saving," I say.
"Luke. I promise we'll do whatever we can to help," Lilly says, then walks over to me and hugs me.
