She sat on couch in her family room that same afternoon sipping her Chai Tea Latte . Lacey was exhausted physically and emotionally. She came home hoping to put Micah down for the night and taking a nice long bubble bath in her favorite scented bath wash. One of her wishes was granted in which Micah was in her bedroom knocked out but her bubble bath would just have to wait.

Glancing across the room, she watched him hesitantly. His finger tightly gripping a similar green cup filled with the same  ingredients. She thought the mug would break into pieces because of his vice grip on it. His leg bouncing anxiously and her, biting her lip nervously. Who was going to speak first. Lacey had no idea, but she knew they ball was now her court and she needed to do something with it.

“I’m so sorry Daniel,” she whispered.

Although her voice was low, he heard her loud and clear. He knew she felt bad but that was never his intention. He took her to meet his mother for a reason and the only reason was to explain why he never called her. He had a lot on his plate. He replayed the last few hours in his head. They were vivid. Even though, he was in the kitchen collecting what his mother asked for, he could hear their conversation...

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry,” Lacey exclaimed. It was the only thing she could say at the time. But what could you say to someone who was suffering immensely and their fate was already written.

“Oh dear,” Claudia shook her head when she saw Lacey’s eyes began to water. “It’s no use in crying over spilled milk. What’s done is done. Take care of your health when you're young so when you become an old hag like me you won’t have to suffer the consequences.” When Lacey held her head down and didn’t respond, Claudia wheeled her chair closed to Lacey, putting her hand on her knee.

“Oh child,” she began. “Like I told my boy and his sister, there’s no use in crying. I had a good life and its my time to see my Lord and savior.”

“How long have you known?” Lacey questioned.

“About a year or so,” Claudia told her. “I didn’t tell my kids and when they found out they jumped at my throat like a lion pouncing on a gazelle.”

“And all this time I thought he wasn’t calling me because he didn’t care, not because he was taking care of his dying mother,” Lacey muttered to herself.

She couldn’t believe herself. Caught up in her own feelings, she didn’t realize that she had put Daniel’s on the back burner. It was nothing new though. She thought because of what she told him that night, he didn’t want to deal with a crazy person. Although, he didn’t give her any hints, Lacey put him in the same category as the others and she was wrong.

“It ok,” Claudia reassured her. She took the blue cover up blanket that was thrown of her legs. “I had my legs amputated. I have heart disease as well because of my diabetes. I known that I had diabetes for years, for a long time now. The only thing that's new is knowing that I have heart disease and I’m no longer able to walk but that’s not going to stop me from living the little life I have left.”
