**This poem does not pertain to me, but to all the transgender and gender dysphoric people and future ones who struggled growing up, trying to figure out what they wanted for themselves and who they were. Thank you.**
I grew up
Wearing dresses
Painting my nails
Perfecting makeup
Stumbling in heels.In my head
I wore button downs
I had trucks, not dolls
I wanted sneakers
I wanted a dirtbike.My parents
Gave life to a
Girl.
In my head
I should have been a
Boy.I grew up
Jumping rope
Rode a pink bike
Held hands with the gender
I should have been.In my head
I wanted to be with my brother
And his friends
Not because I liked them
But because I thought I was one of them.My parents
Gave life to a
Girl.
In my head
I should have been a
Boy.I grew up
Meeting standards
Straight hair
Infinity scarves
Tight jeans.In my head
I met male standards
Man bun
Chinstrap
Belt with baggy jeansMy parents
Gave life to a
Girl.
In my head
I should have been a
Boy.
