*At the prison*
You and the whole group were overjoyed after you and Daryl reunited. He had brought back a few meats from cows, squirrels, and birds. You and Carol were chopping up the meat and seasoning it with the little amount of spices you had.
-
"Do you still remember how to prepare the meat just like your mother did Y/N?" Daryl said as he poured water into cups."Of course I do dad! How could I forget..." You said in a gloomy tone.
"Oh no no. Come here daddy's girl." Daryl said as he took you into his arms.
He remembered how tough your mother's death had been for you.
Carl saw people comforting you and rushed to the grill area.
"Everything okay? What's going on?" Said Carl as he bugged Daryl.
You looked up at Carl with a few tears in your eyes.
"I'm alright" you responded.
" I have to get back to the grill sunshine." Said Daryl as he cut up more meat.
"Quite the kitchen lady huh?" Said Carl.
"Yeah. My mom, before she died, she knew a lot about cooking. The old town we used to live in, before this all happened, was very friendly. My mom always made stew for everyone. The townspeople loved it so, they suggested she open a restaurant."
"Oh I see, how'd go?" Carl asked curiously.
"The four of us, opened a little shop and made small portions of food for everyone. My mother was a caring woman, she always worked so hard and taught me her ways." You said with a smile on your face.
"The four of you?" Carl asked perplexed.
"Oh, right. I didn't tell you about my older brother. He moved to New York a few months before all this went down. I never heard from him again. The last time I did, he had a job interview in some office." You said trying to remember more.
"Oh, I'm really sorry to hear that." Carl said. "Are you hopeful to see him again one day?"
"Of course I am! I'll just pray that we reunite one day. That is, if the walkers don't get any of us first." You chuckled.
As you and Carl both laughed, Daryl started putting batches of seasoned squirrel meat into a oven Lizzie and Mika had crafted a few weeks before.
The smell of the meat flowed through the air. You hadn't eaten in days, it was really getting to you.
You sat down in some benches nearby where Lori was playing with Judith. She was knitting some scarves, now that winter was approaching.
"Hey lil J." Said Carl.
"How old is she?" You asked him.
"She's a few months old, my mom went through a really tough time during her pregnancy." Carl said with a serious face.
"I can imagine." You went deep into thought. "Your mother must be a very strong woman. She's done a lot to keep this one little kiddo around." You had a big smile on your face as you said it.
Carl loved your smile, and couldn't stop staring at you.
This staring seemed to go on forever, until Daryl's voice broke the silence.
"The food is ready! Get your asses over here!" He shouted with both hands around his mouth.
We all sat down at the table and prayed before we consumed our meals.
I was so thankful and so happy the way my life had been the past two days.
I found my dad, I had been getting closer to what seemed like the perfect boy, I had everything I always wanted. I was joyful.
But little did I know that joy wouldn't last forever..
