~ Justin’s POV ~

We walked out of the classroom after Emily left and started chatting as we walked down the hall. “So how you been Justin?” Chaz asked.

“Yea, I’ve been my crazy, awesome prankster self” I said laughing. They laughed too.

“So you haven’t changed, good to know, except that you have a hot ass girlfriend” Chaz said nudging my arm and I rolled my eyes.

“Sel isn’t hot, she’s beautiful” But not as beautiful as that other girl, Emily. I could still here her laughing in my head. Except, wait a minute, that’s not in my head. I began to speed up, following the sound.

“Dude, Where you going?” Ryan asked picking up his pace trying to keep up with me. I stopped when I turned the corner and saw the door to the auditorium close, and her laughing stopped.

I walked up to the door, and opened it slightly, looking in. I saw Emily and her friend walking down to the stage where there was a group of people rehearsing for something.

“Hey, what’s going on in there?” I asked, raising an eyebrow, but still following Emily down the steps.

“They’re rehearsing for the summer concert.” Chaz said, looking through the gap in the door. I opened it wider and we snuck in and sat on the back row of seats, making sure no one saw us.

“Oh, they didn’t do that when I was here.” I whispered, still looking at Emily, who was at the stage now.

“Yea, they introduced in last year. They have dancers, a main singer or group, and other small singers that do a couple of songs. This year the main singer is Emily. I never even knew she could sing until I walked in on her in the music room at the beginning of the school year.” Chaz said. Emily was a singer; I bet she sounds so angelic.

“I think I’ve seen Emily before, have I met her before??” I asked, looking at them. Their faces went shocked again, and they looked at each other before facing me.

“Justin… That’s Emily… Emily Matthews.” Ryan said. My eyes went wide.

“WHAT?!” I shouted and then quickly ducked down along with Ryan and Chaz to hide from being seen. “That can’t be!” I whispered.

“It is.” Chaz said.

“That can’t be Emily” I whispered. Peaking over the top of the chairs, looking at the back of Emily’s head. That can’t be the girl I used to know, and love like a sister. She turned round with the mic in her hand and walked to the front of the stage placing the mic on its stand. I ducked down again when she looked up.

“It is. You just don’t recognise her; you still think that if you meet again, she’d be that tomboy girl who loves to skateboard and video games, don’t you?” I nodded. “Well she’s not, she’s that girl right there” Ryan pointed and Emily who was talking to a teacher at the back of the stage. “The summer you left, she went to this camp to do with the lady thing her mum forced her into”

“The ‘girls to women’ program” I said, I remember now, Emily, my best friend, my sister, she was everything to me: once.

“Yea, that, when she came back after she was transformed. She wore make-up, dresses, heels, and had a new best friend, Maria” I was shocked, I just kept staring at her. I could see it now, her sparkling blue eyes, her cute smile, her laugh.

“I can’t believe she’s changed so much” Ryan and Chaz nodded.

“Yea, and when we went back to school, we went our own ways, me and Chaz became closer to our hockey buddies and Emily… well, she became popular, not for being a bitch like you see in movies, but for being beautiful, kind, sweet and generous.” Ryan finished. So Emily re-invented her life basically, how could she change so much over one summer? Surely the old Emily, my Emy, must be in there somewhere.
