"Dinner's ready!" I hear my mom called from the kitchen. "Coming!" I answered and put my iPad aside. I was reading a story about Jeff The Killer. Interesting but quite saddening as well. I open the door and headed towards the kitchen. I saw my mom serving dinner, my dad and brothers about to take a seat and my little brother waiting excitedly for his food.
I took a seat in between my eldest brother, David and my second eldest brother Michael. "Finally out of your nest, Verone?" My brother asked jokingly. I glared at him, making him laugh. "Seriously, you really need to go out more often. All you do is sit in your room either reading, drawing or playing MMOs." Michael added as he much on his food.
"Well, sorry. But, unlike you guys, I don't have friends that I can hang out with." I told him as I began to eat my own meal. "You don't need to have friends as a reason to go outside. You can go out for a walk to the park or something. And you'll gain friends along the way." Mom stated. Ganging up on me now huh?
I sigh. "With those serial killers on the lose? I'm not taking any chances. Besides, there have been reports people disappearing at the park." I debated. I really hate the outside so much, don't I? Well, I don't actually hate the outside, it's just I don't want to take any risks of losing my life. I'm the only daughter of the family, who knows how crushed they might be if I'm gone?
Then I heard my dad sigh. "Just leave her be. If she wants to go out, she'll go out. And she does have a point though." He said, dismissing the small debate that we were having just now. Thanks, Dad. I said quietly in my heart and continued to finish up my meal. "I'm done!" My little brother, Trevor, exclaimed and went racing to the living room, probably to watch more Minecraft videos. Man, he's addicted to that game.
Then Michael's head perked up, as if something just clicked in his mind. "Oh yeah, I forgot to tell. My team made it to the finals!" He announced, earning praises from the other family members. Michael plays basketball and he is basically the jock of the family. He played cricket, rugby, soccer and basketball but he prefers basketball more. David is more to the gadget side. He has a gaming laptop, iPad Air 2 and Nintendo 3Ds. If there is any problem concerning any gadgets, he always have the solution.
Then there's me. I'm more to a mix of them plus the book lover side and leaning more towards that side. I know a few thing about gadgets and quite an all rounder in sports. Trust me, every time I played a certain sport for fun, the coach always say, "You're quite good in this. You should consider joining the school's team.". Let it be hockey, volleyball, dodge ball, basketball, badminton or even tennis, all the coaches said the same thing. And you know what I did? I joined the archery team. Yep. I wasn't offered this but I joined it. Crushing all the other coaches hopes of me joining.
"Veronica?" I snapped back to reality when I heard my mom called. "Are you okay, dear?" She asked in concern. "I-I'm fine. Just thinking." I told her and stood up from my seat to wash the dishes my dad and brothers retreated to the living room and my mother went to join them. I went to the sink and washed the dishes. After I was done, I went back to my room. Halfway to the stairs, I heard my brother said, "Returning to your nest, o'dragon?" He asked as he laughed. He had to pun one of my favorite MMOs, Dragon Nest.
I ignored his laughter and went to my room. I locked door and throw myself on my fluffy bed. I lay there, remembering the story that I was reading earlier. I reached for my iPad that was sitting on my bedside table and continued on reading.
Timeskip
I put my iPad aside and thought about it. So he ended up killing his whole family, huh? Must be really lonely to live on your own. I looked at the time and saw that it was almost 11 p.m. Better go to sleep, I have school tomorrow. I got up from my bed and went to my closet. I grabbed a gray plain shirt and black track bottoms. I put it on and went straight to bed.
I hope he isn't real....
Timeskip
I woke up to the sound of a bloodcurdling scream. I shot up from my room. That's Mom's voice! I grabbed the army knife that was hidden in a hidden compartment in my bedside table drawer. I quickly ran to my parents' room and bust the door open. "Mom! Wha--!" My eyes widen. My dad was lying lifelessly on the bed, throat slit and a smile was carved on his face. Someone was on top of my now dead mom and he turned to me.
Those lidless eyes...
That carved smile...
JEFF THE KILLER?!
Tears made it's way down my cheeks. "You- You'll pay for this!" I screamed and lunged at him. He dodge and smirked, making his already carved smile wider. "A feisty one aren't you?" He said in a raspy voice. I lunged at him again, only to be tackled back to the floor. Kneed him where the sun never shines and he stumbled back. I took this opportunity and stabbed him at the stomach. He somehow was able to recover quickly and pulled the knife from his stomach. I was unarmed and there's no way I can fight back. He came closer as I backed away until my back hit the wall.
"GO. TO. SLEEP."
I chocked on my own blood and I heard sirens from outside. He scoffed and cursed under his breath before immediately escaping through the window.
I struggled to breathe but pain was unbearable and it gets harder to breathe as time passes. I could see black spots and tried to not lose my consciousness but failed just when the police burst into the room.
Time skip
I open my eyes but was blinded by the lights that made it's way to my eyes. After my eyes adjusted to the light, I saw a doctor with a clipboard and pen in hand next to me jotting a few notes. "I see you are awake, Ms. Foress." He said as he observed the monitors that was connected to me. I wanted to ask where were my family was but the doctor stopped me from doing so. "I advise you not to speak too much. That slit you got managed to damage your voice box a bit but don't worry, it'll heal. Here, use this if you want to talk." He advised and gave a notebook and pen. I grabbed it and wrote my question and gave it to him.
His reaction wasn't very reassuring.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Foress but I'm afraid that... they have passed away." I couldn't believe it. No, it can't be! That's impossible! I lunged and grabbed his collar, trying to scream at him but failed miserably. The nurses rushed in and held me down. I was given shot and knocked out completely.
No...
Present
I punched the punching bag in front of me as the memories of that day replayed in my mind. Every punch got stronger and stronger until the punched bag was torn and the chain that hung it broke. I panted and was bathing in my own sweat.
I walked to one of the stacks of 10 concrete blocks that each had a thickness of 4 inches. With one swift moved of my leg, I broke the whole stack of concrete. I went to the next and punched it, leaving only debris on the floor.
I will get my revenge.
