Chapter One

"Here you are, enjoy the meal guys." I say with a bright smile. I walk away from the table I served and back into the kitchen. I only had the one table since it was late, eleven p.m., but I was tired from the large amount of people who came into the restaurant today. A guy who looks not much older than me walks in but my coworker Josie takes care of him for me so I can leave. I head into the office to let my boss know I'm heading out and she bids me goodnight. I head into the back where our lockers are and collect my things. I slip on my coat and put my bag over my shoulder before pulling out my phone and calling my best friend Mike to come pick me up.

"Hey Mikey." I say tiredly.

"Wow you sound beat." He says.

"Yeah, thanks Mike. I'm done, could you come grab me?" I ask.

"Absolutely. I'll be there soon." He says. I hang up and head out to sit at a table. I sit down not too far from the guy who walked in just a little bit early. Josie walks by and brings me a glass of water.

"Check him out. He's hot." She says with a smirk. Ah, Josie, always a flirt. I roll my eyes playfully at her behavior before thanking her for the drink. She drops a burger off at the stranger's table and I stop paying attention and take a sip of my drink. A few moments later, the stranger is sitting in front of me. I raise an eyebrow as he takes a bite of his burger. I've always been the quiet, shy, loner girl. No one knew the name 'Natalie Casey'. So when a very good looking guy, which doesn't help, sits down in front of me and just starts eating his burger, I'm not exactly sure what to do. I can see Josie out of the corner of my eyes watching the scene play out from behind the counter with an interested and amused expression on her face, and I can tell she's not going to come help me out.

"Uhm hi." I say unsure of what to do with myself. Why couldn't I be one of those pretty confident girls?

"Hi." He says before continuing to eat his burger and I think I notice an accent in his voice.

"Can I help you?" I ask softly. He shrugs.

"It was boring by myself over there. You seemed interesting." He says. Yeah, there's definitely an accent.

"Well I can promise you I'm far from it." I say.

"I'm pretty good at reading people. You're definitely interesting, even if you don't know it yet." He says to me.

"Why are you eating a burger at eleven p.m. anyways?" I ask.

"Why not?" He says before giving me a real answer. "I was out exploring and this was the first place that was open and makes a decent burger.

I raise an eyebrow. "Exploring? What's to see in this small town? There's nothing here." I say.

"Well you obviously don't know where to look." He says matter-of-factly. I jump at the sound of a car horn.

"Mike's here!" Josie yells.

"Yes thank you. Because I couldn't have figure that out without you Sherlock." I yell back. She peeks her head out from the kitchen to wink at me and blow me a kiss.

"Love ya, see you tomorrow."

"Same to you." I say waving at her. She pops back into the kitchen and I stand up.

"This is me." I say awkwardly.

"Too bad. You're night could've gone entirely different if you didn't have anyone waiting on you." He says.

"Yeah, too bad." I repeat, not sure what to say to that.

"It was nice to chat with you." He says. He doesn't ask for my name so I don't ask for his.
