"Well if there isn't any further business?" Dumbledore asked as he started to stand up. "I have one or two last announcements that I would like to make." There were nods around the circle. The staff currently sat in the Room of Requirement, as it was currently staff headquarters. The room had turned into a fairly large living room of sorts. There was a medium sized fireplace, an assortment of different chairs each had a different style, size, shape and colour dependant on who the owner was. The room dealt with how many chairs to place and which ones in accordance with who was at the meeting. The current meeting did not hold many of the lesser staff members; only those who were head of house or taught compulsory subjects were in attendance.
There were shakes of the head from many of the staff members in reply to Dumbledore's question, which was more a statement anyway. Snape sat back in his black leather high wing back chair and was just about ready to drown out more of Albus's unnecessary drivel; until two words made him sit up and listen just like Slughorn had managed to make him do when he caught Severus taking a nap in advanced potions, which in Severus' opinion should have been called 'A monotonous class where the most potion-like substance created is a cup of tea' anyway and often didn't mind telling Slughorn this... Often to his face.
"As many of the other staff members may have noticed Gregory Parsons (Seventh year Hufflepuff) has not been in lessons since Friday. Now I know at least two of you saw Parsons after lessons last Friday."
Get bloody on with it Albus, some of us have better things to do than listen to you dance around a subject.
As if Snape's thoughts had been heard (he sincerely hoped they hadn't or head get a right bollocking from Minerva and then a ten minute lecture about manners like he was 10) Dumbledore stopped his incessant waffling and 'got on with it'.
"It falls to me to announce the death of Gregory's younger brother. I must remind you that Greg is a highly sensitive boy and must be treated as such. There are many things about Greg's parenthood that he does not know. As many of you know Greg was born to a muggle named David Parsons and a rather elusive witch named Accalia Acquarone. Greg does not know who his mother is and it is vital that it stays that way. There is a lot more to Gregory Parsons than meets the eye. For all intents and purposes Gregory Parsons is a normal muggleborn student who has nothing particularly remarkable about him whatsoever." Dumbledore stood for a moment and what was a pleasant evening even turned into a much darker one. Everyone looked around to find everyone else equally confused as they were.
"Late Friday night I received word that Greg's little brother had died. I called him up to my office from a detention that he was in. I believe he was with you wasn't he Severus?" Snape nodded in agreement, but kept silent. "Well I broke the news to the boy and he acted as one would have expected, however after a period of time the boy didn't seem to be able to know what was happening to him and I had to call on Poppy and Severus to calm to poor lad down. He was distraught at the loss of his brother."
"If you don't mind me interrupting Albus" Mcgonagall said. "But what on earth does this have to do with who his parents are?"
"Minerva, how good of you to ask that. As of yet I will not divulge this information to you or anyone else in this room. Not until I am certain of its facts."
The staff members nodded and as the fire flickered murmurs of discussion broke out.
Severus sighed and got up. He placed his thumb and forefinger on the bridge of his nose to try to persuade the on coming headache to die down. Dumbledore's 'announcement' had confused the hell out of him along with a number of other things that happened since the start of term. He needed to get his head around them and this was not the place to do it. For instance why on earth did Granger faint in his detention? Why had he been called to sort out a (in his opinion) rather over dramatic Hufflepuff? All these things were plaguing his mind and all he really wanted to do as sleep.
Dumbledore continued to prattle on about Merlin knows what until he abruptly stopped. The silence tugged at Severus's attention and he turned to face the rest of the room. There he looked upon a half asleep Remus Lupin, the current Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, a bored Professor Flitwick, a fairly placid looking Sprout and a slightly annoyed McGonagall, but what caught his eye the most was Albus Dumbledore who looked like a elderly relation of Nearly Headless Nick. He was ghostly pale and had upon his wreathed old face a scared look. With out another word he strode purposefully towards the door with his pale lilac robes dancing around his ankles. He was half way out of the old oak door when he tossed back into the room a 'meeting adjourned' before running out of the door and supposedly towards his office.
The remanding professors in the room looked to each other perplexed. There was silence until Minerva said that Albus probably just had other things to do and for all of them to leave and get back to their evening. As the small room's occupants shuffled out of the room Minerva turned to Severus and in a quite voice asked. "Do you have any idea what that was about Severus?" Her Scottish accent masking the odd word as she went.
"No I don't, but I feel something strange in the air. I can't quite place it; it's like a change in the wind but more subtle than that." Minerva was nodding -she felt it too. She had no idea what it was, but she felt it none the same.
"Perhaps that's why he left so unexpectedly... Anyway no matter. I do believe that we both have things to be getting on with. Good evening Severus."
And with that Severus also walked out of the room and back towards his chambers to try to figure out what the bloody hell was up with everyone this week...
