When Kathleen was little she used to pretend she was in a movie and she was the main character. She would run around the house dodging chairs and hiding under her couch as she pretended someone was trying to capture her. She would always make up other characters to help her out, she even had lines for them that she would deliver for them in different voices. Her older brother Ryan had always teased her about her imaginary friends but it never really bothered Kathleen, she'd always been the dramatic one in the family anyway. Ever since she was little she's always wanted to be in a movie, or on Broadway for that matter. She'd been in Choir sense middle school and quite enjoyed the feeling of being on stage. She hadn't made any major plans but the idea had always stayed in the back of her mind.

Now, as she raced up five flights of stairs with shutters running though the building large enough to knock her off her feet Kathleen wondered idly how James Bond ever did this kind of thing. Being in a life threatening situation was definitely not as glamorous as Hollywood made it out to be. Her long brown hair was sticking to her sweaty face as she raced up the steps determined to make sure her mother was okay. She was really regretting her decision on wearing pants today because already she could feel just how much they weighed her down.

She could hear Sam wheezing behind her as he struggled to catch up to her, she knew he was just going to slow her down so she came up with a plan to get rid of him.

"Sam, I need you to do me a favor." She said stopping a good flight above him. She leaned over the rail and watched as he leaned on his knees trying to catch his breath. "Call my brother and tell him what happened!"

"What... about your... mom?" He asked completely out of breath.

"I'll find her! Don't worry, just call him!" And with that she darted up the steps only two more flights to go.

Curse this building for being so big.

Kathleen was surprised to find the stair case was completely deserted, she was expecting it to be full of people rushing to get down. Surely they weren't using the elevators, that would be suicide. So where was everyone? It was very strange but it didn't stop her from climbing two steps at a time now.

Before she knew it a large door with a big five on the front came into view, she reached it and yanked it open expecting to find people rushing about. To her surprise there was no one in sight, it was just as empty as the stair case.

The maze of offices were a complete wreck, computers and papers littered the floor left and right. Kathleen stepped over a fallen chair and headed soundlessly in the direction of her mothers office. Was it possible that everyone had evacuated the building already? Every sense that she had told her to stop walking and run away as she got closer to her mothers grand office. It was the biggest in the building, surely someone had to be in there.

She pushed her sweaty hair out of her eyes and gripped her back pack straps as she glanced down every hallway she passed. She saw a light flickering up ahead and slowly made her way toward it, it was coming from inside her mothers office. It was so silent she couldn't even hear her own foot steps, it was like something was pressing a pillow over her ears. When she reached the big oak door she paused and tried to listen for voices inside, nothing was there. She held her breath and silently turned the door nob, the door swung open with ease and instantly Kathleen was bathed in brilliant golden light. She shielded her eyes from the light until they adjusted.

With far more curiosity than caution Kathleen found herself walking toward the source of light. It was like a tiny sun sitting a top her mothers desk, she noticed it gave off a comforting type of warmth the closer she got to it.

It was so beautiful! It seemed to be speaking to her as she lifted her arm to touch it, she felt that if she touched it all her problems would go away. It couldn't have been bigger than a soccer ball yet Kathleen felt it was the most important thing in the world. It also seemed very fimiluar to her like she'd seen this wonderful ball of golden light before, had she imagined it once? She was so close to touching it, two more inches... one more...
