"Sam. Um. You know I have always cared for you right?"Lily says as her voice softens and her eyes begin to lower.
"Yeah I know." I answer, yet I don't know where she is going with this."Let's just go and see the tree."
"Yeah I guess so." She says looking upset, but she follows me towards the tree. As we stop and stare at the tree, we both smile at the same time and begin to laugh.
Lily and Sam
Bestfriends forever
No matter what
That was what was carved into the tree with a heart carved around it.
"Sam I need to tell you something." Lily says sounding like she was about to cry.
"What?" I ask in a polite manner.
"I...um...never mind it doesn't matter." She says sighing.
"No tell me. You sound different today, are you sick?" I feel as if she is hiding something from me. Believe it or not she has never acted this way around me since the day we met, I can't understand why suddenly she's doing it now.
"I have cancer," she tells me nearly about to cry.
"What! Oh my gosh how could you not tell me, you know I will always be there for you whenever and wherever." How could she not have told me. I've known her longer than anyone, I mean it has felt like I have known her longer than anyone. How long could she have had cancer for? What type? Is it alright that it won't kill her? Why would she keep this from me?
"Its skin cancer, but it's treatable so I may have a chance at living. Also I've known for a month but I just didn't know how to tell you.
"But, I don't understand why you couldn't have just told me. This is serious and I could have been with you through all of this from the start, but you didn't tell me."
"I know it's just."
"Just what?"
"I love you. And I didn't want to loose you, so I wanted to tell you the right way."
"You love me?" I'm hoping she's serious and not just joking around as usual. I have loved her for a long long time and I didn't have the guts to actually say it to her.
"Yes and I didn't tell you because if I was to die, I wouldn't have wanted you to know that I loved you, or you would have felt differently to what I feel." She stops and a tear rolls down her face. "What I'm trying to say is if I had died, I wouldn't have wanted you to just move on and forget about how we were best friends and all those memories we had together."
"Lily." I say with a smile.
"Yes?"
"I can't believe you haven't figured it out already." I say with a laugh. "I have had the biggest crush on you for ages. No matter what, I would never ever forget about you." I say as I move closer to her. Her eyes and mouth widen as a smile begins to show. I grab her hand and pull her closer. "You know, this is where we had our first real proper hug."
"I know," she says as she giggles. "Sooo... Are you going to do something or am I just going to have to kiss you." She says in the funniest way.
"Don't be silly." I say as I put my lips on her lips, kissing her before she gets the chance to say something. Her eyes shut as mine are open, I wonder if it's her first kiss? Probably not, but it sure is mine. As we pull away I see her face fill up with joy, yet tears fall from her eyes shortly after.
"Why are you crying?"
"Sam I'm crying with joy, you know this is my first kiss and I've always dreamed that it would be with you, and now that it finally has I feel like it's a dream come true." Yes. Her first kiss was with me! Just how I wanted it to be, my first kiss with her and her first kiss with me. I pull her closer one more time and say, "We will get through this together," and kiss her once more.Maybe dreams really do come true...
