Tamika couldn't sleep at all that night, knowing fully well that she had to go to school the next day. Sighing, she looks over to her alarm clock. 5:20am. She had two hours to get ready. Sighing again, she rolls out of bed and heads to the room next to hers. "Lydia? Could you help me get ready now?" She was just about to knock but the door swung open to show her best friend, Lydia, is already up and dressed. "I thought you would never ask," she beams with pushing her into the bathroom.
An hour and a half later Tamika is ready. Looking in the mirror at her new reflection she lets out a loud gasp. She really did look like a boy. 'Lydia has done a great job!' Now that she looks like a boy she has to start acting like one now. Great. She even has to think of a new name for herself. A boy name that is. Walking out of the bathroom she almost smacks right into Lydia. "You look great! Right. Remember when you get there just see how the other guys move and try to act natural, got it? Now we need to give you a name." Tamika's face automatically fell. 'I cant even think of any names. Sigh.' Lydia starts to shout out random names to Tamika,
"Brad?" Head shakes, no.
"Andrew?" Another head shake.
"Luke?" Head shake.
"Bobby?" Violent head shake with raised eyebrows.
"Mike? Michael?" More head shakes.
"Miguel?" Grimace.
"Scott? Aiden? Ethan?" No, No and another no.
She really didn't like any of the names her best friend shot at her. What is she going to do? She leaves for school in half an hour and she still hasn't found the right name for her new identity as a boy. Rubbing her temples with her hands, she groaned. She could feel a headache coming on, she really didn't want this on her first day of school. All of a sudden she was brought back from la la land when Lydia screamed. "I know, what about Carter?" Tamika's head instantly flew up at the mention of the name. A huge smile ran onto her face. Lydia saw this and grinned. "Carter it is then." Tamika couldn't believe it, after all this time thinking of names she has finally found one. Carter. It would be weird getting called a different name but she'll have to get used to it if she is to stay at this town and attend this school. Lydia's face dropped, "now then 'Carter' its time for you to set off foe school, my dear friend." Tamika's face instantly fell, school, it was time for school.
