Matt's POV
Our show in Long Beach was fucking awesome. It's always a good time when we get to play in front of the hometown crowd. It was almost enough to make me feel better than the slump I've been in. The last notes of encore fade out.
"Good night Long Beach, thank you so much for the hometown. We fucking appreciate and love each and every one of ya'll! See you next time,"I yelled into the microphone as the guys shuffled off the stage.
Johnny threw his picks out into the crowd and I picked up the setlist, folded it neatly and tossed it into the crowd. The fans were going crazy. I smiled and waved one more time before I made it backstage. I knew all the girlfriend's were backstage since it was a home concert so I took a deep breath before entering the dressing room. Normally the guys are in there bullshitting and drinking beer but today it was completely empty. Not a soul in sight.
I turned toward the door just in time to see none other than Andi walk through it. My heart slammed against my rib cage and I was sure she could hear it pounding one hundred miles an hour. It's been so long since I last saw her and all those old feelings I've been working so hard to contain are threatening to break the damn walls I've spent so long trying to keep up. We stood there for a few minutes. Her clear green eyes are nervous but they are still really pretty. Her hair is longer and deeper brown if that's possible. It's curling up at the ends.
She finally broke the silence "Hey stranger," she said softly, her hands fidgeting.
"What are you doing here?" I asked confused.
She took a deep breath and looked side to side "Well...I was in the neighborhood and it's been awhile since I've seen my favorite band in concert." A slow smile spread across her face and it reminded me of the first day I met her.
Say something Matt...something....anything. "How'd you like the show?" Nailed it....NOT.
She nodded obviously getting a little more at ease "I loved it. You guys are amazing and you know it. Where are the guys anyway?" she asked looking around the empty room.
"Your guess is as good as mine actually," I shrugged unsure. "But I'm guessing they must know you were showing up today."
"They might have known a little something."
I could feel my own face drop "So you mean one of them called you here? You didn't come...by yourself."
She looked embarrassed "I would have come by myself...well maybe not here but I would have come to see you. I mean...I wanted to see you. I just didn't know..."
I felt my eyebrows crash together "Didn't know if I wanted you around since you basically told me to fuck off after sleeping with me."
She looked worried that I was going to have her kicked out. "Look Matt...I came here because I wanted to...apologize," she began.
"For what?" I growled.
"For everything," she said in a sincere voice. "And I wanted to see if maybe you wanted to go somewhere and...talk."
"Talk?"
"Yeah," she nodded "Talk."
I shook my head side to side "Look...Andi...I can't. I owe it to Brian. He's my best friend and I can't risk."
"Brian is the one who invited me here," she said quickly.
"What?" I asked incredulously "Are you fucking serious?"
"I couldn't believe it either," she said raising her hands in an 'I don't know' gesture. "But he even had a car pick me up so here I am."
"I still don't think it's a good idea," I lied. I wanted to go with her more than I wanted to breathe at that point.
Her smile faltered and she nodded sadly "I understand. I just...well...I came to say I'm sorry and...I am...very sorry."
"I am too," I said hoarsely wanting nothing more than to take her in my arms and kiss her senseless. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I just kept my feet in place as I watched her walk away.
She made it as far as the door before my resolve busted.
"Andi...wait...I'm coming with you."
