For The Moment

So we released our self titled album in October of that year. It was received pretty good..thanks to all you kick ass fans...so thank you very much.

But I was still miserable. And it wasn't long before Christmas came around...

Which led to our annual Christmas shopping trip...me and Brian. In the years past, we'd hook up and work out what to get the twins together but this would be the first year that he'd have a girlfriend and I didn't. I figured I'd get some extra shopping in for my mom and sister...maybe a little something for Val anyway since she helped me out of a sexual frustration jam.

We checked off our list pretty quickly but I noticed right away that Brian hadn't gotten anything for Andi. I didn't want him to think I didn't want to shop for her and also I was really curious what he was thinking about getting her. So I casually asked him what he intended on buying her.

He seemed confused by the question and I was worried. "I was thinking a necklace or something? Maybe some nice earrings? I don't really know."

I was more than relieved that he was talking about earrings and necklaces instead of diamond rings. But then I realized he was going to blow it, so I did what best friends do. I helped him out.

"You know, Bri," I said as casually as I could "I think I know where you could get her something she'd really like."

"Really?" he asked his brown eyes narrowing.

I laughed "Yeah...definitely...follow me."

So we headed to a rare book shop on Melrose that Val used to drag me to all the time. I didn't appreciate it then but I hoped it had what I...I mean what Brian was looking for.

"Books?" Brian asked but then seemed to agree "Yeah...I guess that could be good. She's got a shit ton of them in stacks all over her apartment."

As we entered, we got a few stares from the fancy ladies running the joint but we are used to it and Brian used his charm to set one of them at ease. She was eating out of his hand in no time and after we told her we were looking for a first edition copy of "The Velveteen Rabbit," she went to work.

After a few hours, she located one and gave us directions on where to pick it up;we headed straight  there. After paying few hundred dollars, we were on our way out.

"So this and diamond earrings?" he asked as we exited the second book store. I wanted to deck him because never in all the time I've known her have I ever seen Andi in any fancy jewelry. But then again, he knew her way better than I did. So I nodded because fuck...he's right. Girls love that shit.

"So are you coming over for Christmas Eve?" he asked casually.

I give him a sideways glance and shook my head "Amy's having Christmas Eve at her house so I think I may head over there this year."

"You're going to miss Christmas with us? That's like the first time ever."

I shrugged. "Amy is going to have a shit fit if I don't show up. It's her first time to host my parents."

He eyed me suspiciously. He knew there was something I was keeping from him, and it was first between us, but he let it go. For a the moment anyway.
