[A/N: First of all, thank you so so much for 13 reads! (23 now since I started writing this chapter. O:) What?! I didn't think I'd get a single read, honestly. <3 I have decided to write the rest of the book in first person, so in Kevin's POV. I'm just a lot more comfortable writing that way, and it's easier to convey emotions when I'm writing AS the character. Hope this is alright with all of you! I'll go back and edit the first chapter into first person soon. Also, if I ever put dots in the middle of a word such as f.uck, it's so that my story doesn't get deleted or rated as R lmao. x]
I woke up around midnight after my phone fell off my bed and thudded to the floor. Awesome, time to play my favourite game of 'how far can I lean off the bed to reach an item without falling.' Once I successfully grabbed my phone and curled back under the blankets, I checked the time, squinting at the bright screen. 12:33.
I decided to go get a glass of water and try to fall back asleep, hopefully without waking anyone up. I adjusted my too-long pajama pants as I stood, cursing what I assumed was my family's short genetics. I placed my phone on my bed and tip-toed my way to the door, turning the handle as quietly as I could and stepping into the hallway.
As I quietly walked past Alix's door, I heard two male voices talking in hushed voices, and a lot of creaking. My eyes widened as I sped past his door, realizing what he meant by having someone over. I almost tripped down the staircase, but regained my balance and continued quietly the kitchen, still shocked.
Call me innocent, and you would be right. After spending the past four years of my life in a center full of little kids and the occasional pre-teen, I had been exposed to literally nothing 'inappropriate'. I was terrified of piercings, tattoos, and my own sexuality. So yes, I was flushed bright red from what I had just heard.
I filled up a small glass of water and reluctantly headed back upstairs, prepared to speed walk down the hallway to my room. As I reached the top of the stairs, I froze. Some random guy was standing outside of Alix's room talking to him. I didn't know what to do, so I kinda just stood there, until I heard a whispered, "Alix, who the f.uck is that?" I jolted back to awareness and stared at the dude blankly.
Alix walked out of the room in his boxers and rolled his eyes when he saw me. "It's this family's adopted kid. Don't worry about it," he told the guy. "Dude, is he gonna tell them?" The guy panicked. Alix shook his head. "Chill, I'll make sure he doesn't." The guy nodded, waving and turning to walk towards me. He brushed past me, causing my water to slosh a little.
I didn't know what to do. I felt so awkward, like I had just witnessed something I shouldn't have - which I guess I had. All of a sudden, Alix was grabbing my wrist and pulling me down the hall to his room. He pushed me through the doorway, and I stumbled slightly, the water in my glass long gone by now. He shut the door behind him and stood in front of me, thinking. I stared up at him, unsure of whether this was a time to apologize or run.
"Kevin, you won't tell Susan or Matthew, right?" he inquired. I shook my head frantically. Of course I wouldn't say anything. "I won't, I promise," I held my eye contact with him so he would know I was being honest. I realized how much taller he was than me; I actually had to look up at him to make eye contact.
Alix nodded. "I didn't think so. I just wanted to make sure," he spoke quietly, so as not to wake up the adults. I shuffled my feet awkwardly, not knowing what to say. I felt so uncomfortable knowing what just happened in here, and I'm sure Alix noticed, because he looked like he was holding back a smirk.
"You can leave now," he tilted his head towards the door. "Oh, uh, yeah. Night," I stammered, quickly exiting the room and walking back to his own. I had completely forgot about my water after that whole adventure. Oh well. I set the empty glass on my bedside table and crawled back into bed, setting my phone on the table too. After some fidgeting to get comfy, I closed my eyes and fell back asleep, cuddled underneath the pile of blankets Susan had made the bed with.
[A/N: Sorry this was so short! I've been really busy with school, but once winter break starts, I'll have a lot more time to write! My break starts next week, what about you guys? Also, please please please let me know if anything I write is ever cliche, or too overused. My feelings will definitely not be hurt, and I'll change that bit right away. I would hate to be that annoying writer that overdoes a theme, or that makes my characters too cliche (or too out of character!) Hope you enjoyed the chapter. I'll try to get a second one out today or tomorrow to make up for the shortness of this one. (:]
