The Forgotten Present by Shaun Allan

Stuck at the back

Of the Christmas tree

In the corner where you

JUST can't see

 Is a present

 Not wrapped in bright paper

 No ribbon or bow

The box a bit battered

With a dent and a hole

 There's a present

Forgotten for years

It sits without fuss

For a child to come

And open it up

But the present

Has been there so long

It's forgotten just what

Is hiding inside

 Its tatty old box

 So the present

 Just stays where it is

Quietly hidden away

And when the tree isn't there

The sofa is shoved in the way

 And the present

 Hopes that one day soon

Santa will come back

And pick it up again

And put it back in his sack

 Then the present

 Can be given once more

To a different child

One who'll open it up

With a huge Christmas smile

 At the present.
