Mavis played in the palace gardens, looking at the busy honeybees buzz by. She played with her dolls over the blanket that was sprawled on the ground. Mavis's favorite doll was the one that looked like her Aunt Morwenna. Although Morwenna wasn't technically her aunt, Mavis's family treated her like their own. Mavis's Uncle John had killed her---by accident. Mavis never met her Aunt Morwenna, she only heard stories of her. By the looks of the doll, she thought her aunt Morwenna was tough and beautiful.

Mavis's father, Xavier, wanted his daughter to learn magic so she could be like her mother. Mavis's mother, Cynder would often teach her basic spells, but she never really used them. Mavis wanted to spend most of her time playing with her dolls. But one fairy she saw changed her life.

The fairy had bright, long red hair, and wore a black, frilly dress. The fairy asked Mavis if she wanted a wish. Mavis said yes, but she'd needed time to think. The fairy responded with a clear stern response, " think of a wise one". Mavis wasn't sure what she wanted, but she was going to wait until she really needed it.

Mavis, her mother and her father were on their way to Dragon's Fall, another kingdom nearby. There, they were going to see the coronation of Princess Annika. Annika was the same age as Mavis; 15. Annika and Mavis saw each other at the holiday gatherings, and they spent almost all of their time together; they were best friends. Mavis was happy fro Annika, and she couldn't wait to giver her her coronation gift.

After watching her best friend's coronation, Annika and Mavis went out to the edge of the palace gardens, and Mavis gave her her coronation gift. Mavis outstretched her palm, and a little fairy lay curled up in her palm. Annika gasped at the sight of the fairy; she'd never seen one before. Mavis said to the fairy that she wished for Annika to have a happy ending. There was snap of a tree branch that came from the woods, and a hunter stood on the edge of the forest.

The hunter looked at Annika the same way she looked at him. Annika looked at Mavis, and whispered thank you, and gave her one of those big hugs she always gives. Annika was happy because she found her love at first sight. His name was Ryan, and thanked Mavis for the gift he'd given to his love, and the three made their way back to the palace.
