What He Says

The next day, I was a bit nervous. I won the race yesterday! I remind myself. Today, he has to do what I say! It sounded great in my head but, as soon as i reached the top of the DWMA's steps, and saw Death the Kid standing there, all confident thoughts flew out my ear.

"Are you ready?" He asks, a smirk spread agross his lips.

"For... For what?" I ask, trying unsuccessfully not to stammer. I can feel my face growing red.

"You have to do what I say today." He says with a slight chuckle.

I was about to protest, but I never felt more releived to feel an icy stare. Maka and Soul had approached us.

"Hey, Kid! Asami!" She says cheerily, and all Soul can say is another incoherant 'hey'.

Kid takes a step forward. "Hi, Maka, Soul."

Soul is still watching me, the ice still surrounding his eyes. "Hey, Soul." I say, wondering what would happen if, for once, I spoke to an icy stare. "What are you looking at?"

To my astonishment, Soul gives his head a slight shake, then stands straight and runs one hand through his spiky white hair. "So uncool of me. heh.."

Maka and Kid glance at him for a second, then turn back to eachother. "Where did you guys go yesterday?" Maka asks Kid. "You missed almost all of your afternoon classes."

Kid turns to me, and i shake my head slightly, guessing at what he was thinking. "We just had a race." He says and i watch him, wide-eyed. He can't tell them! I mentally scream, but become releived when he continues. "She is very fast." Was all he said.

Maka turns to me. "You raced Kid? Did he pull his board out? No one beats him when he uses it."

"It wasn't so hard to beat him." I say and barely stop myself from chuckling. Kid turned to me, the most entertaining expression on his face.

"What are you talking about, Asami? I beat YOU." He chuckles and nudges me playfully.

I nudge him back. "In your dreams maybe!"

We are interrupted by Maka's chuckle. "You two sound like you have known eachother for years!" She manages between laughs. She glances back at Soul for half a second and exchanges a smile.

Kid tilts his head for a second, then corrects himself. "So what are you two up to?" he asks them, and Maka smiles again. She is a smiler. I observe and see Soul fidget a bit behind his partner.

"We are just about to head out on a mission. Want to join us? We could use backup." She says and Soul mumbles something that sounded like 'backup is uncool', but Maka ignored him.

Kid glanced at me, then back at his friend. "We would like that." He says cheerily, then they all start walking into the building together, me trailing a bit behind.

It took me a while to realize Soul had matched my pace and was walking next to me. I try to ignore the cold feeling I sensed from him, but it was dificult, especially when he spoke. "Hey." was all he said.

"Hey.' I mumble back and we walk again in silence. After a while of hearing Maka and Kid laughing in front of me, I noticed something. Maka had a weird... something about her.I couldn't place it. It wasn't quite like mine and Soul's, but it wasn't quite like Kid. It was closer to his though. Whatever it was.

Suddenly, there is a tap at my shoulder. Soul had gently poked me. "Stop staring. Your face is turning red." He murmers in my ear, and I realize I was staring at Maka and Kid so intently, I almost forgot how to breathe. I take a deep breath, and Soul chuckles. "Don't worry. Maka and Kid are just friends."

I look over at him, and finally realize he is about a head taller than me. "What-" I begin but Soul chuckles again.

"They aren't anything more. Maka has someone. You still have a chance with him." He says quietly and my face burns.

"I wasn't!" I whisper urgently, only getting another chuckle out of him.

He calms down a bit, then leans down so his face is right in front of mine. "Let's try something, okay?" He says, sounding nothing like he usually did. I could only nod, curiously. "Smile." he says, and smiles himself.

"What is that going to do?" I ask him quietly.

"Just do it." He says, the same smile plastered to his face.

So I smile and, out of the corner of my eye, Kid turns around and glances at me. I'm still looking at Soul, who has noticed the same thing, but was still inches away from me. Kid slows his pace and puts one hand on my shoulder, and Soul backs up, his smile growing slightly. "So? What do you think of the school?" Kid asks, and swaps places with Soul, so he is walking next to me. I glance at Soul, who winks at me, then begins talking to Maka.

"It's... interresting." I manage to say, trying to calm down. What was Soul trying to prove? I wonder, then i see Kid's hand waving in front of my face.

"Asami, are you alright?" He asks, one hand in the middle of my back.

I shake a bit, his tough giving me chills. "I'm fine." I mumble, and Kid seems to understand. Or I thought he did. A few seconds later, he suddenly pulls me through a door into an abandoned classroom. "So... umm... what were you and Soul talking about?" He stutters, and a little bit of color appears at his cheeks.

I giggle a bit, then cut it short. I turn away from him. Is this what Soul wanted? "Nothing." I tell him, then take a step towards the door. I feel his hand gently grab my wrist.

"That smile wan't nothing..." He murmers and I turn back to him. His face is completely red.

"Why, Death the Kid." I start and take a step towards him, a sarcastic concerned face plastered to mine. "Are... Are you jealous?" I tease him, but he only looks away.

Suddenly, realization jumps up and slaps me in the face. He IS jealous! "Wait..." I begin, but he takes a step back.

"I was just wondering..." He mumbles.

I take a step closer to him. "You were curious about me and Soul?"

He doesn't answer, just stands there in silence for a bit. Then he looks at me and walks right up to me. He wraps both of his arms around my waste, and pulls me into him. "What-..." I stammer, and my face begins to burn as his golden eyes bore straight into my individually colored amber and blood red ones.

Just as my eyes start to flutter closed, and Kid begins to lean closer to me, there is a loud knock at the door. "Kid! Asami! Are you in there?" Maka's voice can be heard through the wood. Kid takes a quick step back, and I stumble a bit. We brush ourselves off and are almost at the door, when I hear Maka's voice again. "Oh there you are Asami. Where did Kid go, do you know?" My eyes widen in shock, and Kid glances down at me. When I push open the door, I see Maka, Soul, and a girl that looks just like me walking down the hall together.

"Wait!" Kid calls, and the trio stops. They turn back around and the shock on Maka's face was sincere, while the icy stare of Soul seemed... releived? But the weirdest expression was that of the stranger. She looked exactly like me in every way, down to the uniform. The only difference was her air was in a ponytail. Her expression revealed entertainment. She was happy.

Maka quickly looked between me and the other girl, confusion clouding her vision. I approached the other girl. "What are you doing here?" I ask her, making sure my voice driped with venom.

"Why, I am a new student starting today." She said, a smile spreading further across her face.

"No, really. What are you doing here?" I demand again and Kid puts one hand on my shoulder. She glances at him and I watch, horrified, as her gaze travels over him, and her expression changes from innocent to evil.

She finally turns back to me. "I just wanted to be in the same school as my sisters."

I take a step back and feel my eyes widen, somehow, further. "Sis-... Sisters? Like, both of us?!"

She smiles and takes a step closer. "Yes, now all three of us are together again."

I am just about to say something along the lines of hags from hell, but instead, by vision fades to black.
