Making A Promise

When I woke again, I was in the school infermary. I only knew this because the bed was hard and the pillow was flat. Oh, and Kid was asleep on the side of the bed. I looked down at him, then around at the rest of the room. It wasn't hard since a curtain was wrapping around most of the bed. I was about to get up when Kid mumbled something next to me, and moved. Slowly, he lifted his head up and blinked open his golden yellow eyes. He is so cute when he is tired. I think, then shake my head. Slowly, his eyes meet mine, and I can't move. A smile makes its way across his face and mine as well, before he lays his head back down on his arms. For a second, I am tempted to run my fingers through his soft black hair, then think better of it. Now isn't the time. I think,  and climb off the other side of the bed. Pulling open the curtain slowly, I see a horrible sight. The girl that I spoke to earlier was waiting in a chair facing the curtain. "Rise and shine, Asami." She says cheerfully, her voice as soft as velvet.

I growl at her. "What are you doing here, Kiyomi?"

"Well, is that any way to talk to your elder sister?" Another velvety voice asks from the bed next to me.

When I turn towards the voice, yet another me lays lounging on the bed, her hair pulled back into a braid. "Hiromi, what are you goys doing here?"

"We followed your little boy-toy down here." Hiromi says calmly. "We need to speak with you."

"About what?"

Kiyomi chuckles from her chair. "Your little boy-toy."

After a moment of silence after their explanation, I burst out laughing. "You two have GOT to be kidding!" I manage between fits of laughter. "Me and Death the Kid?!"

Kiyomi and Hiromi exchange a glance, then turn back to me. "We don't think you are understanding the severity of this-" Kiyomi begins but i cut her off.

"You don't understand the circumstances."

That's when Kiyomi stands and puts her face right in front of mine. "I'm still talking!" She screams.

"And I'm not listening!" I scream back at her. "Listen Kiyomi, there is nothing going on that would cause anything like that to happen. I don't intend to get a partner, I don't intend to stay here much longer, and I DON'T intend to kill anybody. You girls have nothing to worry about."

"Well, we are worrying anyway."Hiromi mumbles from her place in the corner. "Because of the three of us, you are the only weapon who is half Kishen."

"You are half Kishen?" I hear a more masculine voice exclame from behind me, and the suprise makes me cringe. Death the Kid has probably heard everything.

Slowly, I turn to him and the shocked expression on his face. "Yes." I mumble, and Kiyomi and Hiromi both retreat towards teh door.

"Don't leave yet." Kid says to them, but doesn't look away from me. I keep my eyes downcast. "How, if you three are sisters, is she the only one who is partly Kishen?"

"The three of us do not all share a father." Kiyomi murmers to Kid without looking at him. "Hiromi and myself were born from our Shinigami mother and a Weapon father. Asami was born to our Shinigami mother and a Weapon who had, prior to her birth, become a kishen, not just a kishen egg." Kiyomi finishes, and Kid had glanced over at the two. I slid back a step, but Kid grabbed my arm, keeping me in place.

"Thank you, Kiyomi." He says and turns back to me.

The other girls left the room, just as tears made their way down my cheeks. I used my free hand to whipe at them, but it didn't help much. Every time someone has to explain my strange birth, I cry. I am always trying to forget that my father was one of the only beings of total madness.I am always trying to forget how my mother loved something so evil. I am always trying to forget half of who I am.
