AN - Sorry its been so long again. Had hardly any time to write this book, and my highland series seems to come so much easier. Not a bad thing, but it gets me a little frustrated with myself. I hope this chapter makes up for it! Az x
Chapter 9
Bion's time was either wondrously fantastic, or dangerously bad, depending completely on which side of the line was stood. For he watched Grogos' face turn almost purple with rage at being told what to do before it turned once more, in seconds, into the biggest smile of glee he had every spotted on a slimy bastards face before. It was one that spoke of a trap being turned around upon the hunter, only in this case the unfortunate thing was, and it meant it was being turned upon Bion. Yet, he did not rightly care in that moment. All he cared for was the look of utter terror on the delicate face of Charis. She had haunted his dreams for too long now for him to just leave her be now. Not when he had seen that fire burning within her that he felt echoed within himself every day. No matter the confidence in his stance, Bion could not let it be seen that inside the words Grogos spoke sent a thrill of dread through his being. Though not for himself, nay, never for himself, only for this tiny slip of a female before him. One that was still strapped between the slimy bovine and the solid wall.
"Oh, Stephanos, I do believe that you have come upon us at the right time. I am so glad to have a witness to this sordid attack against my father's wife." Turing to see the head guard enter the room suspiciously, Bion knew there was no way for him to get out of this unscathed, but he could try to get Charis out of here. A pudgy finger was stabbed in his direction. "This, this brute was trying to force himself against your mistress and I only just managed to save her before he ruined her." His shock almost looked real, if not for the gleam of satisfaction in his eyes.
Stephanos knew that it was not as Grogos said, Bion could see that clearly in the sufferance in his face. Yet he was as stuck in this situation now as the rest of them. "I demand you take this brute away and deal with him." Grogos could not have looked more like a smug hog if he had tried, his face shiny with sweat as he tried his hardest not to grin. Bion knew that he had little time, but his brain was not working as it should do, he was trying to figure out how to save Charis but not all the players were visible and he played best when he knew all the parts. Though that did not stop him wanting to flee for the first time in his life with Charis in tow.
But it was Stephanos who seemed to level the pieces for him. "I am afraid that I cannot take such orders from you. Bion is a fighter who belongs to your father and the woman you hold so tightly," a pointed stare at the exact position Grogos held her in was telling. "Is in fact your father's wife, therefore this matter has to go before him, before any decision can be made on his property." The purple shade slowly entered Grogos' face once more, but all he could really do was splutter a little before he finally nodded. "Aye, you speak the truth, it seems my anger at the situation I stumbled upon has gotten the better of me, and shall you lead the way?" Grogos' teeth practically ground together through the entirety of his speech.
Bion could see that Charis was still frozen in place, her gaze utterly frozen in place as she stared at him, as if willing him to free himself of this, to leave her to the fate that was destined to her. But did she not see that he could do no such thing? Stephanos it seemed was an ally they had not planned on. "Nay, I do insist that you precede us, your father would appreciate your view of this matter firstly I believe?" The deference was so good that even Bion found it hard not to believe that he was being anything other than sincere. Expect his eyes were hard, and they glanced in at Bion with a gaze that spoke of hidden hatred.
With a huff and a meaty grip on Charis' arm, Grogos flounced forward pushing past both other the other males, in a hurry now that he had been caught to set forward his hastily concocted story before it could be refuted. Not that Gelon would believe anyone else, not from what Bion had seen so far of his household. The sweating male was keeping a rather clipped pace for one so very large, he hurried till his breathing turned to pants, but seemed to be in a rush to get this over with. With a twisting and turning journey that lost even Bion who prided himself on remembering any escape route, felt as if his head was spinning when eventually they walked through the main entrance to the large room he had originally fought in on the day that Charis was first married. Those few seconds it took to step through the doorway took him back to the moment he had first spied her, thought her a primped and preening doll that wished nothing more than a rich husband. How very wrong he had been. He was sure if he offered her an exit now, no matter what option he gave her, she would run with him. Just to take her away from here.
