Castiel sat down at the long table in a thickly cushioned chair. Dean sat on his right, and Sam on Cas's left.
"Would you like some tea?" Dean asked. Cas surveyed the table. There were dozens of teapots filled with steaming tea, half-full teacups, and plates of delicious looking treats.
"Yes, please."
Dean poured some tea for Cas and himself, while Sam asked for half a cup. Dean reached across the table, grabbed Sam's cup, sliced it in half with a deadly looking knife, and filled it up.
Cas's tea was dark purple. It smelled good, though, so he drank it anyway.
It tasted like regular Earl Gray tea.
Sam and Dean were talking animatedly about something or other; Cas thought he heard Sam say something about giant crayons.
Suddenly Sam and Dean turned toward Cas at the same time. It was creepy.
"So, Cas, how long are you staying?" That was Dean.
"Oh, um, I don't think I'll be staying long, if I can find a way home."
"So get this. I was thinking- shut up, Dean- and I remembered that there's a legend that if you beat the Queen and her crazy chess game- which is impossible- she has to give you a wish. Have you ever played chess?"
Cas grinned. "Yes, I'm the best in my family."
Dean smirked. "Well, forget every single rule you've ever learned. This is Wonderland's chess. The rules are almost impossible to remember. However, it just so happens that I remember them."
"Really? Will you teach me?"
"Well... I can try, I guess."
"Yay!! Thanks, Dean!!"
(A/N NO THIS ISNT DESTIEL CAS IS A CHILD okay bye)
"Deannnn I still don't get itttt."
They had been trying to play for the last hour and Castiel had just lost, again, when Dean punched Cas's queen.
The rules, as Dean explained, were different from regular chess in a few ways:
1) The queen is the one you want to keep safe, rather than the king. (Wonderland is only ruled by queens)
2) There are flowers instead of pawns, and they all move differently.
3) All the pieces are about three feet tall.
4) You must physically attack pieces, not just capture them with other pieces.
5) Random squares drop from the floor at random times, even if a person is standing on it.Cas was pretty sure there's more rules, but he couldn't remember any.
Two days later, and Cas was feeling pretty confident.
Dean, however wasn't too sure. He didn't think Cas was ready.
Sam assured Dean he was, and Cas eventually left for the palace.
