This poem is based on someone I once knew in school who suffered from a few disabilities and was bullied because of her differences. I was first inspired to write this through a competition which provided with the title 'Believe it or Not'.
I hope you enjoy it :)
I still remember
That time last May
When Milly walked
In a different way
A deformed rhythm
To her feet
Her legs too short
On her seat
Arms laid limp
By her side
Her head hung low
Her tongue was tied
Then rumours grew
To brutal heights
Which stung her heart
And stomped her rights
I was told
She wasn't fed
Her blood was black
Instead of red
Her lips were sown;
She couldn't smile
These words just mounded
Into a pile
And I laugh now
Since my gullible mind
Believed all words
Cruel or kind
I still remember
When she fell
The blood on her knee
Was red as well
The class photo
That one picture
When everyone's attention
Wasn't on her
So she let loose
Just for a while
And blended in
With a pretty smile
And I still remember
On the last day
When Milly walked
In a different way
But the path she walked
Was just the same
Through the gates
Where we once came
Past the roads
With joy, with strife
Past the fence
That we all cross in life
Past the hindrance
And past the hate
Past all struggles
Across the state
In ways she was weak
She knew all along
But behind those flaws
Her heart was strong
And believe it or not
I could finally see
That crippled Milly
Was just like me
Thank you for taking your time to read this :)
